If you want a band similar to Orange Goblin, I would check out Mannhai. Look them up on MA if you have to. Their The Sons of Yesterday's Black Grouse album is excellent.

I'd probably start with Age of Silence or Arcturus' avant-garde work (their early work was black metal). La Masquerade Infernale and the Sham Mirrors, which are both by Arcturus, are actually 2 of my favorite albums of all time.

Age of Silence's Myspace doesn't work anymore. I don't like a lot of Sigh's music because of the vocals, but there's certain stuff that I love. I want to get Gallow's Gallery sometime. They went in a different direction with that album. I think Messiahplan is an awesome song.
Also, I just listened to Fleurety for the first time today. I had heard of them, but hadn't checked them out until today. The stuff I heard was good.
