thats the definition of speed metal, not thrash metal

No, that's thrash metal. Speed metal is just the halfway point between heavy metal and power metal. As I can recall, Hardcore punk doesn't have singing. In other words, Speed Metal is simply sped up heavy metal.

And Overkill, and Kreator, and Annihilator

I've only heard parts of a couple of Kreator's songs. I haven't listened to the other 2 at all, though I've heard of them. I'll check 'em out.

heres a question for everyone here.

Would you rather have good metal be mainstream and have almost everyone listen to it, or keep metal as it is now, the best stuff being behind the scenes and have good metal almost unknown?

I think metal would lose a lot of of it's attitude and family feel to it if it was just another mainstream genre. I mean, if all the bands we listen to were just as amazing and mainstream, the sound obviously wouldnt make a diff. Good is good, and that's all to it. But I find metal has a distinct feel and nature to it that could only be dealt with if it was kept underground.

Unknown. If Metal (good metal, that is) becomes popular as a whole, then I'll just get sick of hearing it all the time.

Wow, never checked this thread before. My bad, definitely.

If I can add some input...
I think it would be stupid if everyone listened to metal. Its a genre that if you like it, you love it and really, live it.
People who like other genres, say...my wife, for example. She loves country...but also likes pop, and classical...to her it doesn't matter what she listens to. As long as it is easy on the ears and/or has understandable lyrics.
I love metal. I can't stand listening to much else, for recreation. I don't want to have to think about listening to a song, hearing the words...bla bla bla. I let the NOISE of it, flood me with the raw power and just get saturated by it. I've even passed that enjoyment on to my children.

Its just something you feel. This is a video of my kid, loving metal, all on his own

Just some thoughts.

Keep it as it is now. Good metal should stay underground, and I don't think I'd like it nearly as much if everyone listened to it.

I guess this is what it should be like. Though we can sort of contradict ourselves if we insult anyone who doesn't like metal, because if we agree with this statement, we need dumbasses that listen to Pop, R'n'B and Hip-Hop.

Hmmmm....

Well, even if say Power Metal and Melodic Death became mainstream I'd still love it. But I could never see Black and Death becoming popular. Their an acquired taste, and the average music listener is too lazy to look up better stuff.

My best friend listens to nothing but 80's pop and all the stuff on the radio because thats what his parents raised him on. I've tried to get him into Metal several times but he just uses "That's not my thing." as a cop out. I have successfully taught him the greatness of Blind Guardian, though.

There'd be more kids at Arterial Hemorrhage shows, which means more $$$ for me.

If only death metal bands like Demilich became popular. And if only Demilich were still together.

The reason we don't want metal to become mainstream is simple: Not because we hate popular music (well maybe someo of you subscribe to that principle), or because less cool people like the same music, but because we would hear it too much.

We would lose the control we have over when we listen to our metal.

My sister picked up In Flames recently, which I thought was great! No more listening to her emo bs music. Wrong! I started to get sick of the songs she played, because I wasn't in the mood to listen to it and I kept hearing it anyways.

Too much of anything is a bad thing, and if metal were everywhere it would become annoying.

Exactly. That sums up my opinion down to the fine point. Oftentimes, I won't listen to the mp3's that bands host at their site because every poseur who wants to say he's into folk metal cuz he downloaded Trollhammaren or some dude who wants to say he's into Gorgoroth cuz he has the song Procreating Satan. I can't listen to those songs cuz everyone who wants to be a metalhead has those songs and play them all the time. It pisses me off.
