Hey guys. Been practicing vocals for Morbid Angel's "Where The Slime Lives". I have a deep grunt/growl/echoe. It's a thing that I call "The Gurgle Growl". And then I have my Enslaved and Amon Amarth inspired voice. It's not as easy as it sounds. I've been singing for 5 years. And my voice gets better every year. Here's a tip to getting a John Tardy(Obituary) vocal. Put your tounge at the front of your teeth or at the roof of your mouth and do a growl. It will give a screech/echoe/growl. It takes practice.

I myself am also trying to get my friends into the stuff I listen too, simply because I can never relate to them. That and I get pissed every time they want to talk about how awesome Linkin Park is. So far, I've been taking it very slow. I'm starting by lending out some Iced Earth, Edguy, and Axenstar. You cant really get someone to go from Linkin Park and Three Days Grace one day to Necrophagist and Belphegor the next day.

Just slowly work them into heavier more aggressive stuff, and make sure they listen to it with an open mind. Thats the best possible way I could think of convincing someone. After all it wasn't but maybe a little more then a year ago that I used to listen to nothing but music on the radio, and I made that kind of transition too. I started with Iron Maiden, and ended up listening to Necrophagist and Death and more currently nothing but Borknagar and Enthroned. If you're not born with it, and raised on it, it's all definitely an acquired taste.

Ooh! Can I join? If I had the time I'd name out everything I like, but thats alot of bands, and I seriously don't have the time.

Top 5, I guess.

Slayer
Pantera
Napalm Death
older Sepultura
Deicide's pretty good.
older Cannibal Corpse

umm.. I despise shit like Marilyn Manson, erm.. most Nu-Metal garbage.

I'll see a bunch of you fags at Wacken this year.

Now, on to the fun stuff. An online friend of mine started a solo project some time ago and just recorded this last week. It's atmospheric black metal influenced ambient. Absolutely fucking amazing stuff. He's set up for a cassette release with Obscure Gate productions some time in the next month and is in the process of setting up a CD release as well.

2 more CDs came to my house today (Wintersun - Wintersun and Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons). :D

Just wait for now, educate him and he'll eventually know more about metal. I really should tell my friends that nu metal isn't metal, but I just don't bother telling them that, lol. Besides, they'll think what I'd say to them would be bullshit. :P

I did..... my friend loves AFI and Taking Back Sunday and stuff.... and I was like 'Hey, Jon, wanna come see Necrophagist with me and Matt?'
'Sure.'

I think you need to show these people the bands live, so they can truely appreciate the talent and such.

I've never converted someone from one extreme to the next. I usually ease em in with older stuff and work my way up to some death.

My friend really liked going to gigs, and Necrophagist was very cheap, so he came along for the shit of it. And he enjoyed them. He's coming again when I see them in March.

And I'm glad he did want to come... as my other friend, who is into tr00 Metal, had to cancel.

the problem with that is that no bands that are metal ever come close to where I live, the only one that did was Gigantour but I couldn't go because of school, but other than that, he mainly listens to whatever I put in the cd player when we hang out

I love the lyrics to Edible Autopsy. Prolly one of my fav songs by 'em. I also remember reading a thread on SA, shocking/disturbing/or idiot quotes, and someone put down when they say CC live, they started Fucked with a Knife with " This is for all the ladies in the crowd".
Twas a good chuckle.

Yeah, Vomitory are pretty good, albeit a bit repetitive after a while.

Best Cannibal Corpse songs?

Spine Splitter
Pounded Into Dust
I Will Kill You
Five Nails Through the Neck
Raped by the Beast
Devoured by Vermin
Hammer Smashed Face (preferably live - with Corpsegrinder on vocals)

Vomitory. Nice. I likey.

About the conversions of friends. I've tried and failed numerous times. None of my friends will even give tr00 metal a shot. Whenever I put on some Devourment or even some Elysia, they just start laughing hysterically at the vocals. The closest they come to any form of metal is the hight pitched grindcore, which I find funny.
