not really, there are tons of subgenres, but also genres that claim to be metal, but are too bad on 'untrue' to ever be accepted by the metal community as real metal. They claim to be it though, and that upsets and angers (a lot of) people. That's why nu metal still counts as a subgenre of rock music, not metal. So the word 'metal' in 'nu-metal' is decieving.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I don't really like listening to In Flames but Opeth IS worth checking out. As long as it's metal it's worth trying in this club. Then again, it's all up to your personas preferences. I love Opeth, Dream Theater and DragonForce, but I don't go telling people what to NOT listen to.

I like In Flames quite a lot. But Opeth are far superior.

Plus Opeth aren't Melodic Death.... they're Progressive Death. Massive difference.

I like In Flames. I loved The Jester Race. I havent listened to much Death Metal, hell I've only been into metal for a little more then a year. But I know for a fact that Hypocrisy is Melodic Death Metal.

Necrophagist,
Strapping Young Lad.

Although SYL aren't strictly Death, there are a lot of Death Metal characteristics to their music and they could be the push through the door in terms of Death Metal. I mean, the music you listen to now is far from the extremes. And jumping from Nu-Metal to Death Metal might not be the best idea. You might wanna start off small.

Slayer, Sepultura, Megadeth, Metallica..... basically thrash. Then you can work your way up to the more extreme forms of metal music.
