Also, just because a guitarist has a great amount of ethos appeal doesn't mean everybody should go gaga over him. Personally, I think Alexi and Malmsteen and Michael Angelo (ESPECIALLY) and Buckethead are better guitarists.

it still has metal influinces. look at slipknot, there about as close to metal as a nu band can get. its metal with rap and some metalcore influinces.

This crew is for the metalheads who listen to metal that's truly metal, with NO dispute about it, not for fringe metalheads who border on just being hard rock.

Because they're supposed to. It's a very "cool" thing to do and no-one want's to be different from the others. It's called group behavior, which is usually seen among sub-cultures as well as masses(see 'teens'). If you can't fit the bill, others will instantly see you as an inferior being. Hating Slipknot is a part of being a true metal head, thus, gaining an equal position in the group. This is how any other person would see it. As for me, being yet another sheep in the herd, I must say it's because they're not metal, their music sucks and they've got smelly feet. ^^
