Hey there. Sorry, I guess I haven't been checking in. I haven't really been listening to new music much except the rare ocassion Pandora actually shows me something I haven't heard before (actually, this is something it showed me not too too long ago that stood out and by that I mean a few months ago).

I listened to the new Mastodon twice in a row and have really dug it a lot but wanna listen more. I just don't like Show Yourself. It's Emperor of Sand's Curl of the Burl for me. I guess I only think that because those songs are in the middle of stuff that I really like or they don't fit to me or something. If like Priestess or MonstrO or someone had those on the radio I'd probably say I liked them, tbh. Got really hooked on Les Discrets and Alcest for a while since I last posted. Still haven't gotten around to the final Agalloch album or the new Sleep or the new Melvins or Arktis by Ihsahn (and now Amr just came out). Oh yeah and the new Borknagar, but I did listen to the song they got Garm as a guest on over and over when the video came out. I was so psyched that he did that. Oh yeah and Rituals by Rotting Christ just- ... came out 2 years ago. Damn I have fallen off. And there's how many Animals As Leaders albums since Weightless? It's because all I've been listening to is standup comedy and podcasts.

I'm actually in the NG chat all the time. I go there sometimes during my breaks at work even, at least when I do a double shift (been doing a lot of those, end up at work from like 6 am to like 8 pm).

Edit: lol See, I just tried to use underscores to italicize something like I'm still in chat.

Well I've always liked it here, but when there is no discussion it's kind of hard to build on something. I like when people post in here, but not just a one-line post with a link to a track on YouTube.

I'd post more often if there were some posts with more "discussion potential".

I'm not listening to a whole bunch of new metal stuff myself. Only "kind of new" stuff I bought recently was Cannibal Corpse's Red Before Black, and it's from last year.

Otherwise I've been digging into Arcturus' discography, and I think their most recent is also quite solid. I had been post-poning listening to this one because Garm didn't do the vocals on it, but ICS Vortex is quite the vocalist himself. I also listened to their older stuff, like their very first that I never bothered to listen to before sooner this month, and I like it two.

I listened to the new Mastodon twice in a row and have really dug it a lot but wanna listen more. I just don't like Show Yourself. It's Emperor of Sand's Curl of the Burl for me. It's because all I've been listening to is standup comedy and podcasts.

I also have to listen to the newest Sleep album. Can't believe I didn't give it a proper listen yet! Omg! Oh! And talking about Agalloch, one of the two bands that rose from the ashes of Agalloch has just released the second single for their upcoming album Salt, which will be released on the 20th of July. Former Agalloch members Aesop Dekker, Don Anderson and Jason Walton teamed up with ex Giant Squid member Aaron John Gregory for this new project.

This is their newest single

but I think I liked the first single better. More atmospheric and "aerial" in a way.

I also didn't know that Garm worked with Borknagar again! Damn! Now I have to go and listen to that track!

It wasn't news that I wanted to hear when I had a busy day ahead of me to look forward to. Couldn't believe that he was gone and still can't. Just so sudden to happen. My sister was gonna see Manilla Road at Wacken next week but obviously won't now (she's still going, of course). Thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Yeah it happened out of fucking nowhere and it shocked the hell out of me when I saw. Them along with Brocas Helm and Slough Feg are the main bands out of that general "style" I really wanted to see live and now Manilla Road is probably never happening, I don't know what the hell is going on with Brocas Helm, and I haven't seen anything for Slough Feg touring anywhere in my general vicinity in awhile or if I have it's well after the fact.

I can't see Brocas Helm doing anything at this point. Been a long time since their last album and it seems all the band members have moved onto their personal lives. As for Slough Feg, you can only hope they will tour near you soon. They're meant to be releasing a new album soon but nothing about it has been revealed as of yet. However, they are doing a European tour right now and are playing in Manchester tomorrow night so I'll be popping over there after work. It's been a good while since I last went to a gig in Manchester and I can't miss this one. Plus, I've got Bloodstock next week!

Yeah you're probably right. Defender of the Crown came out 14 years ago. On their Facebook they had stuff for a show they were playing in in 2017 which happened to be in my state. And I had no idea about it til like a few months later when I decided to see if I could find them on Facebook.

Yeah I noticed they were doing their European tour at the moment and figured you'd go and see them. and I also saw they were going to release a new album but I cannot find ANYTHING about it other than stuff the band themselves have said and the fact that the name and year are down on their Wikipedia page. Though I saw Cloven Hoof are going to be nearish to me next month and I'm trying to find someone to go with me to that.

Erm...hello? Why the hell do I have a unicorn for a profile picture?

No wait, I meant to say something else....

Holy shit, Metal Hell is STILL this big? Or should I say bigger than ever?

Well anyway, hello fellow headbangers, name is Goatchrist and it seems I've founded this club over 14 (!) years ago. The reason why I'm here now is basically a dude going by the name of HeavenDuff - a man with whom I used to discuss all things metal waaaaay back and whom I'd seen posting on The Metal Archives not too long ago, an act that caused a sudden craving to go back to Newgrounds and have a look at what's going on nowadays.

Problem was -> my account was basically dead because the e-mail account used for its creation has been vanished for so long that I couldn't even remember its name, much less a fucking password. I didn't feel like creating a new account, trying to explain who I am or whatever, so I contacted Tom Fulp who confirmed my identity and boom -> I turned into a goddamn unicorn! ;-)

Anyway, coming here feels like going into a familiar and cozy bar that you haven't been to for ages and hell, I'm thirsty!

So - what's up?

Oh well, I'm not too surprised that Newgrounds is not what it used to be and I know that they went through a couple of rough years.

Anyway, now that I'm here, might as well try to find out what people are up to do.

It surely doesn't hurt to spend some time in old havens, does it?

I never liked Carpathian Forest much, though. I fail to see the extravaganza.

clubs and crews doesn't get much attention these days...
discussion boils down to melodeath is good all other metal blows metal archives are the unrivaled experts...
also metal hell has rules now for some reason...

tbh posting music in the music thread in general is more fulfilling and less inclined to draw butthurt...
and condescension from so called experts...

heres some goatmoon...

Apparently not even the General section gets too much attention nowadays.

I feel a little like an old hag right now, but Facebook and similar "social" networks really killed off focused conversation, didn't it? I mean, I try to keep my Facebook feed as clean as possible, but its basically 90% disposable shit.

Rules? Interesting - you know a few? I'm curious. I personally don't like the idea of "butthurtism" here, since I've never felt that this whole thing here should be as tight-knit and MA-like as it appears to be?

Also, that Goatmoon track was fun. Nice tremolo-picking, a little folksy-sounding as well.

Agatus - The Invisible

This is the type of blackened heavy metal I'm really enjoying these days. Big melodies and epicisms. My kind of stuff.

Response to Metal Hell 2018-10-15 15:26:51

Holy shit, 10 days - no reply.

Okay, now I get what some guys were talking about concerning NG BBS.

Aaaaaaanyhow, I didn't fight for my login data just to give up again, so I'm gonna try to get some fire in here.

You know, how about that new Behemoth album? I love the controversy around it, some people are calling it "Behemoth lite/sellout", some say it's the greatest thing known to man but there's hardly a middle ground.

Personally, I didn't expect too much after hearing "Wolves ov Siberia" ("standard black metal fare" after first listen) and "God=Dog" (weird title, weird kiddy choir, but makes sense after Nergal explained it) and I was afraid that Nergal & Co had blown out all the good ideas with the release of "The Satanist" in 2014.

But then "Bartzabel" came along with that massive post-punk/Nick-Cave-ish influence and I thought it was different but fucking epic at the same time so when the whole "I Loved You At Your Darkest" album was released, I got my hands on it and even after 5 or 6 repeated listens, I'm still not able to give you a final verdict but it is most definitely a very interesting direction, since I'm a sucker for that 80s goth rock stuff and reverb-drenched arpeggios.

At times, the songs feel a bit underdeveloped/unfinished and the black metal elements are overwhelming compared to their other extreme influences - there's not a single Demigod/Evangelion-esque death metal riff in there...but still - I do listen to it from start to finish without getting bored and have a recurring craving for the record.

What are your thoughts about it? I'm sure there are some Behemoth fans still around here on NG.

For those who haven't heard it yet, check out "Bartzabel" for a taste:

I didn't know you were still posting here Sense-Offender, I think we're Facebook friends now.

Marko post your facebook link! Now that you're back I'm keen to start checking this thread again. I need some downloads for Shores of Sheol! I lost Monumentum and I want it back! I want all of them! Find that shit!

If you recall correctly this thread was a huge deal to me. Finding new metal bands and albums here was a fucking priveledge. I wouldn't know about Solefald, I wouldn't know about Melvins, my life would just not have been the same. I started recording bedroom metal because of this thread. Since leaving the thread I've recorded my own albums and played what feels like 100 live shows. I'm now in a punk band called the Sperts and I self recorded an EP for us in January.

Hey, a familiar name! ;-)

Yeah, that Agatus record is awesome - "The Eternalist" is more classic heavy metal than before but with nice bursts of Greek black metal and progressive influences. Even falsettos in there ^^ got a shirt of that great cover.

With the exception of Sòlastafir I haven't heard a single band you mentioned, but I'm taking notes! ^^ Any recommendations for a Sludge noob like me? Only really know Crowbar and liking some of their stuff. I've been busy with my own music and writing reviews for Ukrainian Antichrist Magazine over the last few years - with a continued interest in Hellenic black metal and an increased favor for classic metal -> SATAN (UK) being one of my more recent discoveries - no idea how I could not get into them earlier.

Haha that happened a few years ago. Someone got into a whole bunch of accounts and just changed their icon. A lot were Pokemon, but some got Conal's face.

Haha, alright! Thanks for clearing that up. Keeping it for now, my old signature as well - nostalgia & stuff ^^
