My favorite Sigh album is Scorn defeat, their most traditional effort but excellent black metal with lyrics pertaining to evils from Japanese folklore and mythology. I like how Mirai Kawashima actually has an adept grasp of the English language, that's seldom seen with Japanese vocalists.

clear vinyl looks awesome O:
I've pre-ordered it on regular CD. If there was one album where I'd go nuts with buying a CD with vinyl, it'll be Ensiferum's new album. I may not even listen to any samples since when I last tried that, I stopped after ten seconds and knew I had to save it for the album itself.

i might get the cd of it a bit after i get the vinyl
because well it would be cool having both
granted i dont own any High On Fire albums on either...
it would still be pretty awesome having the vinyl for it
and ive always wanted to get something on clear vinyl...but whenever i find something on it its almost always either some astronomical price or its kinda cheap but i (for some odd reason) dont have the money at the time

and Ensiferum's new album would be pretty sweet to have on both :D

im also planning on getting Black Sabbath's new album if it comes out on both vinyl and cd (which it more than likely will) if they're still going to release it this year. im interested to hear what they're going to do with the album now that Bill Ward is out of the band and Tony has Lymphoma :/

No, he meant the reverse. He meant that just because music sounds heavy, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's metal.

Picking a favorite Sigh album is like picking a favorite child. They all have their unique little qwirks that make them endearing. It really depends on my mood at the moment.

Amnesia is like lounge music from Hell. I really dig it. Their new album is so off the wall (even for Sigh).

Just saying, back when I was a fur, most people I ever chatted with were huge, HUGE Motorhead fans. Most people couldn't name Deep Purple sadly.

Well... Surprise !!! Deep Purple and Motorhead are some of the most famous and well-known bands in the world.

Motorhead perhaps, but Deep Purple, despite being mentiomed next to Sabbath and Zeppelin, seem to be treated as the underdog of the three. Most people can only name Smoke on the Water, and rarely, Child in Time.

I think you got my point. They are relatively huge. I don't care if teenage girlies don't know them or if Lloyd Banks fans have no clue who they are. They are still famous. They toured all around the world, got their music played by various other huge rock celebrities and even metal musicians. Just on Last.fm, Deep Purple has 1 600 000 fans compared to Megadeth who has just over a million and who are still huge and well-known, these guys are as invisible as the sun...

I'm far too weary about the Black Sabbath reunion now. I respect the fact that Tony is doing what he can to fight through but without Bill Ward, you cannot have the original Black Sabbath line-up.

At 16 hours ago, Zodir wrote: Amnesia is like lounge music from Hell. I really dig it. Their new album is so off the wall (even for Sigh).

So in that case I could easily dive into the rest of their discography.

Yes and no. I had found a few tracks to download years back but never got an album until last Christmas. I figured I was overdue to getting a Sigh album so that was on the list. To shortlist what I wanted, I left out Enslaved, Novembers Doom and Virgin Steele. As you can tell, I still have more essentials to check out but at least that way metal will remain fresh.

Favorite bands/artists are Slipknot, Dope, Fear Factory, Dethklok, Mushroomhead, Korn, Soilwork, Mudvayne, Ill Nino, Rob Zombie, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Static-X, Hatebreed, Godsmack, Serj Tankian, and System of a Down. I know some of these may not be considered metal, but whatever.

Whatever what?

But you are right. Soilwork and Fear Factory are the only two metal bands in there.

It's not that I hate all the stuff you listed, I do like Ill Nino, System Of A Down and Disturbed in fact, but these three are Nu-Metal bands. The different metal communities tend to draw a line between Nu-Metal/Metalcore and Metal. This is also what we do. Most of the bands you have listed fall under the Nu-Metal genre. Not that you should avoid the Metal Hell, in fact if you are interrested by other genres of music, you should stick around, but you could also join the Nu-Metal/Metalcore Crew, here on Newgrounds.

And even they REALLY shouldn't even count as metal.

Fear Factory has a death metal edge, but really is more of an industrial band than a metal band.

If you took away the keyboards from Soilwork, and the good drumming, then Soilwork and All That Remains are identical. Why one is "metal" and the other "isn't" is beyond me, as neither are really metal.

Thanks to HMV's sales on Peaceville Records albums (Anathema, At the Gates, Autopsy, Darkthrone and many more), I ended up going on a spending spree today.

I would say it has a balance of both. Soul of a New Machine is where they executed the death metal elements the best.

I always assumed Soilwork were more like In Flames with being good for a few albums but then turning for the worse after a musical change of direction. Then again, I never cared too much about Soilwork.

I doubt you even know their albums like Steelbath Suicide and A Predator's Portrait. These two albums are definitely Melodic Death Metal albums. These cannot be confused with metalcore. A few of their latest albums are Gothenburg Metal albums. This genre while it did influence Metalcore isn't Metalcore itself. Someone can try to argue that the line between both genres is but I refuse to consider bands like Scar Symmetry especially with albums like Pitch Black Progress or bands like Dark Tranquillity throughout their whole career as Metalcore albums.

Sworn To A Great Divide though... is pretty much Metalcore with a few Gothenburg elements. Not a very good album, but this should really not affect your perception of their earlier work.

I'd be amazed if they could make an album I'd hate. :P They'll be like Blind Guardian and Slough Feg to me where after eight records they've still yet to write a bad album. Yes, I do like A Twist in the Myth very much.

I've probably said the exact same thing about Dark Tranquillity before but if I can hear an album of theirs online, I'll give them a shot. They should have been with Peaceville Records since I would have seen some of their CDs on Saturday and picked one up. That saying, I am tempted to suggest more sales alike to encourage people to buy more often. I'm actually going to purchase some more from said sales since I left out Pentagram but then again, one of their albums looked like a compilation so it was best checking which are the studio albums and which are live/compilations.

Hopefully they approve your review. That album should have many reviews already so they'll be really picky with what to approve for further reviews.

My brother is starting to really get into power metal (specifically bands like Thunderstone and HammerFall) and I want to know which albums I must show him outside of the classics (Helloween's Keeper albums, Gamma Ray's Land of the Free, and Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle-Earth).
