Could compare to say... Metallica. See what would happen if James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich would leave. I'd laugh if Kirk Hammet went like: "Oh! That's totally my band now!"

Let's hope they don't pull a Stratovarius then. Timo Tolkki may have left the band but the rest of the bandmates insisted on keeping the legacy alive, even without the mainman of the band for over 20 years. I'm actually glad Tolkki left Stratovarius as his creativity has been going downhill for a long time now and Strato's self-titled album was an abomination. Polaris is a huge step up but it's no Visions.

They have two albums, Retribution and Cosmogenesis. And you're in. welcome.
I bought Cosmogenesis after seeing Obscura mentioned in here, and I'd just like to thank hypersomniax for brining them up. They're awesome.

Obscura rocks my cock. I'll def need to get Retribution asap, but Cosmogenesis is fucking sick. My favorite song on it is probably Universe Momentum. But then again, Centric Flow is fucking epic too.

Nuh uh. They're not the best, for sure, but you don't have to hate on them just cause they're more mainstream. Have you listened to the last track on Wrath?

Thanks to all the guys who made their list for a Metal Festival. If these Festivals would exist dude, Death Metal and Thrash Metal bands would have a busy summer :P

Response to Metal Hell 2010-06-22 17:05:58

Festival:

Day 1:
Dystopia
Convincing Dystopia to set aside their differences and play.

This will be great as there will be loads of fighting and as they're vegans, loads of fanny. Wahey!

Day 2:
Warning
Spending the day trying to convince Patrick Walker to stop being a dick and reform the band.

Admittedly this won't be very interesting, but everyone will be too drunk from previous days to care, I reckon.

Day 3:
Death
Spending most of the day resurrecting Chuck Schuldiner. By way of ritual, sacrifice or whatever is necessary to appease the Gawds.

God, I sound like smeagol :(.

You could probably whack Megadeth, Arcturus, Age of Silence, Kayo Dot, Solefald, Electric Wizard, Sunn O))), Tankard and stuff in there... if theres time.

A lot of people seem to believe that Mastodon is in some kind of way, a "core" band. I've seen the metalcore tag on last.fm and on some other pages on the internet. Weird...

I know they do. But more like hardcore. Not metalcore in any way...
Maybe I just don't know em enough. But from what I've heard they are more like hardcore than metalcore.

Never, NEVER rely on Last.fm tags! Have a look at black metal and metal. The top artists are the ones who have been tagged as those genres the most.

Not for the faint of heart!

with very general genre classifications like metal and black metal, it was obvious that it was going to happen...

But I'm not talking about clicking one of the most popular shit band like Cradle Of Filth getting tagged black metal very often. I'm talking about going to a band's page and seing metalcore as the third most used tag for the band. I really hope you are not stating that all their fans on last.fm are idiots.

I really think there is a difference between what I'm talking about and kids tagging Slipknot "metal".

Also in DVD news, the big 4 show is going to DVD.

Now all I want is a bootleg of any of the recent Slayer shows where they played Reign In Blood in its entirerty and a bootleg of the Master Of Puppets anniversary shows...I think Metallica played it in full for a few of them :/

It's all related. Last.fm is a horrible resource for genre labels for artists as anyone can tag any artists as ANYTHING! Wikipedia is more reliable than Last.fm for genres. Personally, I don't think Mastodon have any -core influences in their music. Well, I'm not sure about Remission as I've yet to hear it but the rest is either very little to none.
