I heard that alternative rock was a code name for AIDS.

From what I understand, it's some buzzword that radio stations and record labels came up with for punk-based bands that weren't playing in styles that were popular, so anything slightly different got lumped in there. Now it has no meaning because there's basically no definition; I've seen it describe pop-punk, experimental rock, "indie," grunge, and loads of other bands. I avoid the term altogether.

That's pretty much the exact definition. Except I've never seen it applied to grunge rock, which I also forgot to add to my boring list of stuff I like besides metal.

What do you think about the term Alternative to describe stuff like The Cure, The Smiths, Imogen Heap, (newer) Radiohead.
Cause I always thought that was perhaps Alt Rock as I could see it used for bands like The Cure. But given most Alternative music is very electronic I'm always confused.
Personally I consider Alternative a genre similar to Avant-Garde perhaps. But Alt. Rock is just silly.

Meh, like I said before, I just avoid saying alternative anything. I feel like there's always a better, more accurate term to describe a band's sound than "alternative."

Same here. I listen to a different genre depending on what mood I'm in. Pretty much like this:

Bored - Melodic Death Metal
Angreh - Brutal Death Metal
Determined - Thrash Metal
Defeated - Black Metal

Anyway, did anybody hear Insomnium's new album? Personally I think it's meh, but only because they've done much better. Still, Insomnium = greatest melodic death metal band of all time.

Cause this is so varied.

So a girl in my school whom i've been a acquaintance with all my life ran into me.

I was wearing a Candlemass shirt(This is another very interesting story, if anyone wants to know at the Symphony X show I went to last year tickets were 30 bucks and another guy basically my size only had 20 bucks and he was DYING to see Symphony X and he was wearing a Candlemass shirt, I told him i'd give him 15 bucks for the shirt and he agreed - So he saw SX shirtless)

She told me the shirt was awesome and that she was a huge fan of candlemass.

Turns out, that even though she looks and acts like a normal girl she is a huge fan of doom metal, drone metal, sludge metal and stoner metal.

I think i'm in love.

I just bought Wearing A Martyr's Crown by Nightrage. An album that is returning to the roots of Melodic Death Metal. This album includes some of the greatest death metal riffs I've ever heard. Still, they bring the little touch that makes them an interresting Melodic Death Metal band.

Honestly, since I've re-joinned the Metal Hell I have been a little more into straight down Death Metal and Tech Death. But also into Doom and Black a little more. But whatever. Recently I've listenned to a little more of my most ancient albums and all the stuff I used to listen to in High School. But I found out that I still like Melodeath. And this new album I just bought is fucking great and is bringing me back to what got me first into metal music.

I also found out watching Amon Amarth and Dark Tranquillity live performances on the internet and I have understood a few little things about what makes Melodeath so nice. Most important thing is that it makes great live music. Solos and catchy riffs makes it a music that will get people together. These parts in the songs are well-known by everyone in the audience and I've heard people singing the guitar riffs like when Dark Tranquillity plays The Treason Wall.
I think the fact that these parts are important (along with the chorus) will just make the show reach a higher level.

Also, great album cover :)

Wow. My only concern about these is how long they last. I go through so many earphones and have to get new ones so soon. Perhaps these headphones do last a very long time but I want to make sure on that. And of course, I won't wear them outside the house. I can just use my earphones which'll be spares whenever I get these awesome headphones.

Definitely, that means no Nobuo Uematso, no Queen, no Rush and a lot of other non-metal stuff that I actually enjoy.

It's really Impact Is Imminent-ish, so I liked it.

Atrocity Exhibition - Riot Act, Children Of A Worthless God and Funeral Hymn were all really good songs - but the rest of the album was a bore fest, I agree.

Symphony X - KING OF TERRORS - Mothballs if you liked that other Symphony X song you'll like this one to.

Perhaps, but I don't think genres need much logic behind their names. What the hell does Death Metal mean? Or Sludge? They just are what they are.

Earphones have pansy little wires that break easily, and are generally wrapped around something (an iPod for example). That causes them to break sooner. Headphones have thicker wires and are a lot more durable as long as you look after them.
So I assure you they will last as long as you don't spill drinks and jump on them :P.

I agree.
I don't even like Metal much nowadays anyway. And I'd rather have someone who was artistic and pretencious than someone who wears massive goth boots and listens to shit Metal (which lets face it, most people do).

I just like bland girls, and the Metal image has its foundations as the antithesis of bland.

It depends how to wrap it up. If you wrap it really tight at the beginning, so that the wire bends where it was inserted, that will cause them to break/lose quality of sound. If you let it hang loose at the beginning and then tightly, you should be fine.

Also, I need some more brutal death metal to listen to. All I'm listening to now is Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Nile, Cannibal Corpse and Bloodbath. Gimmeh some more.
