They aren't bad necessarily, but they aren't really good. They have a fucking beast for a bassist, that's for sure, Alex Webster, he's the man. Their music in my opinion is pretty bland and monotonous. You could argue that all death metal is that way, but they're kind of entry level into the genre, and the most popular band in that level of metal. If you want to listen to them, start out with Tomb of the Mutilated, Butchered at Birth, or The Wretched Spawn.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-11-29 20:25:40

basically everything that capn said

they're not bad, so much as there's just way better death metal bands. but they're an initiation sort of band as far as death is concerned.

They were actually the first I listened to. Man, I felt so extreme when The Wretched Spawn cd arrived at my house. I showed it to my friends to gross them out, I even brought it to school once to feel hardcore. I was so stupid back then, eighth grade. I listened to them for about a solid year and tried to get back into them with a new album but it didn't move me.

Oh man, I remember that exact feeling.

"HEY HAVE YOU HEARD OF THIS BAND THEY'RE CALLED DYING FETUS"
what i'm thinking: "OH MAN THEY'LL THINK I'M SO BADASS WHEN THEY HEAR HOW BRUTAL OF A NAME THAT IS OH MAN I AM THE SHIT"

That's when I first listened to Death and Opeth too, and I love them even more now. I'm pretty quiet about my music tastes, mostly because the dick I mentioned before won't shutup about DevilDriver, Lamb of God, and so on as being death metal. It's irritating and yet amusing.

Evoken and Lazarus Blackstar are pretty boss. Those are the only ones that come to mind right now, but I know other members will have a handful of bands.

Damnit, sorry. They kind of have the funeral thing though, I think anyways. I'm not an expert on the genre the guy is asking for, shit.

The first band that comes to mind when someone says funeral doom. Because they're the only funeral doom band I listen to.

Get the latest one Evisceration Plague. Why? Because it's brutal. And the most anti-emo thing I've ever heard I'd have to say. I admire the fact the CC never went gaycore even with all that commercial pressure.

DISEASE HAS SPREAD, YOU PRAY FOR DEATH, EVISCERATION PLAGUE \m/

I would think so also, but he started the list off with "Burzum" so it must be legit.

You can not check out Funeral Doom and not listen to all of Shape of Despair's albums.

It's just how it works, yo.

The traditional definition in the true metal gods tablets is, "Doom metal in which you can prepare a cup of coffee in between snare hits."

And let me tell you something. Dio had nothing to do with the real metal gods and those who wrote these magical tablets. Dio is no god. And that's why I'm not going to squirt a tear when cancer fucks that weird little midget up.

Decent singer I might add.

I'm back from my London trip and obtained the following CDs:

Candlemass - Candlemass
Metal Church - Metal Church
Ministry - Psalm 69
Strapping Young Lad - Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing
Strapping Young Lad - City

I also had the chance to play Brutal Legend on my sister's PS3 and had a lot of fun.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had troubles with listening to Cannibal Corpse. I really wanted to enjoy their stuff but most of their songs are completely unmemorable. However, I do like a few songs such as Shredded Humans and Edible Autopsy.

Now, I know MOST if not all memebers will disagree here but - In Flames is the perfect band to get into death metal.

YES, I KNOW THEY ARE FAR FROM THE BEST DEATH METAL BAND AND YOU COULD EVEN ARGUE THEY ARE CORE.

Just saying, they are the PERFECT band to get into death.

I recommend you listen to the newest stuff, and slowly move into there older stuff.

Since you are into some core, new In Flames should be easy to get into, when into new In Flames old In Flames will be easy to get into and THEN we can begin getting you into better, more obscure stuff.

Ah, Slayer and Megadeth are not death metal - They are Thrash metal!

Besides the obvious big four of thrash metal(Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer) some other great ones include Kreator, Exodus, Overkill, Artillery, Demolition Hammer, Destruction and Municipal Waste.

These are just some of the more noteable thrash metal bands, but all great none-the-less.
