Granted its from the 80s, but they take the bands SO SERIOUSLY! Am I the only one who can tell that the Morbid Angel guy was being really sarcastic?

I thought the guys in bands expressed themselves well (apart from Glen Benton, who's just insane anyway) and the Morbid Angel guy was pretty stupid to say what he did as it was always going to be taken in a way he did not intend.
And there are plenty of nihilistic little twats who listen to Metal and the media love them because it makes the lyrics seem more serious than they are.
It's always angry teens, expressing themselves. It's never people like me who just think the music is appealing and catchy. Cause ultimately that doesn't sell as well as a scandal.

If I ever saw that bitch reporter, I would snap her fucking neck.

First of all, they're forgetting about other music like rap, that talk about far worse shit than metal. Second, they shouldn't be getting involved in our business, we listen to our music while they listen to ours, and we should respect each other. They shouldn't be accusing us for no reason.

Oh, and to answer your question, I was severely pissed off about that as well, probably more than you if anything.

At the time of that video, rap (especially hardcore and gangsta rap) was an underground affair, and metal was the media's scapegoat.

My god. I almost had a heart attack. I thought I lost all my music. Stupid external. I need to build a new one.

Slough Feg are the only guys who make power metal that I enjoy :(

Are they really that power metal-ish? Listening to Down Among the Deadmen and Traveller makes me think otherwise. Still an awesome band nonetheless.

I like Emperor's first album.

I have it as well and I do enjoy some of the tracks as well, most especially Into the Infinity of Thoughts.

Am I exempt from this?
I am elitist only because I'm very against nu-metal and metalcore

And melodeath? :P

And fuck, I like NIRVANA. I'm fucking open minded. But ya'll don't know SHIIIIIIIT. SHIIIIIIIIIT.

I have nothing against that.

I love how these reports never pay attention to other genres of metal, most especially power. I'd love to hear what they'd have to say about power metal.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-10-29 08:51:54

Slough Feg aren't strictly power metal, being a traditional heavy metal with folk influences, but being traditional metal, they do have their power-ish moments.

My favourite non-metal band? I'm a really big Kyuss fan, I don't consider them metal, even if the archives say so. But Jimi Hendrix or Frank Zappa. Speaking of non-metal, I'm currently getting me some JAZZ.

A lot people just don't understand arts.

I mean, when an horror movie come out... like let's say Texas Chainsaw Massacre or older movies like Silence Of The Lamb...
People understand that it is entertainement and fiction (even if based on true stories). Therefore they do not take it all that seriously because they know it's fiction.
But what about music? Why is it that people don't get the fact that the guys from Cannibal Corpse do not really "rape people with knives" or "fuck dead kid's bodies". And I could have taken another example, like Blood Red Throne. Of course they talk about death and stuff... but if someone was to do a painting involving death related subjects... would it be any different?

I think that music gets all this pressure because it is one of the most commercialised arts in the world. And that it's easy to find music. So people don't try to find the actual "Artistic work" in metal music. They only listen to it with their close-minded attitude... take it all too seriously... and blow dicks...

I think the reason for that isn't so much close-mindedness as the news just concentrating on the retards who go 'OMG I LOVE JEFFERY DAHMER, HE'S LIKE A PIN UP FOR HATE, RAR RAR RAR!' and the egits like sitcom.
There's a minority of fools who take the violence in Metal seriously, and the news then get to tar us all with that brush.

I don't know... It just seems to me that there is a lot of these people going all like: "Hey, I'm going to see Saw 6... and Metal is all about killing babies and brutality, it sucks..."

Those who like to get people decapitated in a very realistic way in a movie... but who really cannot take the fact that bands like Cliteater... probably are joking...

Hmm. It's just a part of the style. The same way Pop songs will always be about love. And no one questions the content of Will Young and Elton John's songs. You'll never here them singing about lubing up guys bumholes with their spit. It's always women they sing about.

Unless you're Morrissey singing about being a miserable bastard, lyrics mean fuck all. People need to realise this.

Best part!

It's always women they sing about.

But at the time they wrote most of their stuff, homosexuality was not well accepted in society. Well, at least for Elton John, cause I don't know the other guy you named.

I think lyrics are importants and that often, death metal lyrics are shit. It may be annoying, but not to be taken seriously.

btw, great death metal band with great lyrics = Benighted

And Elton didn't come out for a long while.
But Will Young was the first winner of Pop Idol, which went on to become X Factor and inspired all the American Idol stuff.
And he's popular, even now.

But HE could of sang about bumholes. But he never has.

People used to make a huge deal out of the violence in movies (some groups still do). It's just like comic books, rap, and metal; all were controversial for a while, but the opposition ultimately gave up when no hard evidence to back up their claims surfaced, and the next big thing arises. Right now, that controversial thing is video game violence. the internet is also getting some shit, but not for violence.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-10-29 20:17:31

Ahh..video game violence. The one thing that makes games worth playing! Not really...a good story and play mechanics help. I believe I have figured out the media's problem. THEY DON'T LIKE CHANGE!!! If someone (or a group of people) tries to express themselves in a new way i.e. video games, and metal, they instantly cry SATANISM!!! EVIL!!! BABY RAPERS!!! ETC. ETC.!
