The Blue Record is 81% right now. Look forward to hearing it.

I still don't own a Mastodon album. There's something about them I don't like.

Im nkt gonna lie, I like Avenged sevenfold >->

So anyways, I need to do a project in which we create a music video for a song with a positive message. It can be any genre. Needless to say, I wanna use something metal, since the teacher said that metal is just random noise with screaming about gore and satan, and I wanna prove him wrong. The song has to be under 4 minutes.

The point is...metal hell, do you have any suggestions?

Does the song need to have a positive message, or the music video?

Angra has some positive songs, from what I remember. your best bet is definitely going to be power metal. i think it's going to be tough to find a posi black metal band :P

what does your teacher define as "positive?"

Choose a prog song. Because it's better than power.

I never said they weren't.

But fuck Angra.

Use this song.

Only because the lyrics are incredibly positive:

Perambulation
Wading
Milk the keel through tidal slough at dawn
On and on
Grating and lapping at the swollen stinking skin
Imitation
Mating muscles cut through cord
Through mountain's own
On and on
Sated but engorged on mother's milk and fed as twins
Bold defecation
Raise the bow and aim for crimson dawn

I agree with this statement, however good of musicians they are i've heard that in real life, the members are all total douche bags.

Weren't they kicked off a North Anerica tour they were having with Firewind, Cryonic Temple and Iron Mask back in '05 or '06 halfway through?

Cause I remeber seeing those four bands at a show(Was awesome) but then hearing that a couple days later the other bands were sick of Angra so they booted them from the tour.

Prog Nation was tonight.

Unexpect were good. Though as they're hardly known the energy from the crowd was poor, but the band were energetic and I like their music anyway. Though the sound quality was pretty bad, and the songs they choose were some of their less abstract stuff, which I found to be a shame. But for an opening act I've never seen any better... though that may be because I ended up being late for Cynic :P.

Bigelf were good too. Sort of throwback Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath wannabes with old school synths and lots of beards. I enjoyed it, it was good music. But its the sort of thing I enjoy live and not at home, just because Rock music bores me nowadays.

I wasn't all that fussed with Opeth. Their set list was pretty shit: Windowpane, Lotus Eater, Heir Apparent (or Porcelain Heart - I dunno), April Ethereal, Harlequin Forest, Hex Omega. And besides Windowpane and April Ethereal I'm not really familiar with any of them, and they always play Windowpane so I'm bored of it. And I'd rather of had When or something instead of AE.
But it is Opeth so you know the performance is always grand, I 'm just not that bothered any more.

Dream Theater on the other hand seem to transcend that bored part of my mind and I instantly go back into fanboy mode the moment the lights go down. Sadly the venue was full of blatant new comers to DT who had only heard Black Clouds & Silver Lining and as I'm a snob they pissed me a lot :P.
Though after they got all the shitty new songs out of the way the tr00 DT fans made a huge push forward for The Dance of Eternity so I was surrounded by a much higher class of fan :).
So yeah, they were tits as usual. The set wasn't as good as I've had previously, but it had The Dance of Eternity so I can't really complain :D.

The set for any who care:
A Nightmare to Remember
A Rite of Passage
Sacrificed Sons
Wither
Scene Seven: I. The Dance of Eternity
Scene Seven: II. One Last Time
Scene Eight: The Spirit Carries On
In the Name of God
The Count of Tuscany

I know, 4 songs from BC&SL... urgh.

I think I have the perfect suggestion.
And ONLY I.

Lykathea Aflame- To give.
Astonishingly Brutal and luxuriously melodic.
Length of the song: 3:58.

And best part.
The lyrics.

Gifts you give others - surely the same ones return to you,
therefore think how you present others,
since the good when you give - by that time you are presented
and if the evil being your gift - by that time you are punished.

Since the eyes watching over the life are never closing.

How much pain do you need yet?
Since the way is being shown to you
and indeed only the closed eyes do not see it.

Shine of Consolation by same band is also brutal yet positive.

Times in at 3:40.

The outside is corrugated very much so far
it reflects the Sun only a little,
there is too much obscurity and chill.
Please expose your soul and become a mirror,
warmth and light throw to gloomy lands,
ruin that musty crypts,
...yet there is no stronger might!

How intensively I long for that indescribably magnificence
whose twinkles I have every so often seen here on the Earth.

Oh the strong wind tear the grey clouds on my sky
otherwise I cannot tell about the Sun.

Too often I am dipped by the tears of sadness...
My sadness... homesickness

"You even do not know that your home is elsewhere!
Inhospitable lands you have called your home!"
"Why can't you search for a home with me?
Why do your ears not hear the call of home?
Perhaps it's too gentle for them?"

The most positive Metal song that comes to mind for me is Devin Townsend's 'Triumph'.

And I didn't mention this in my previous post but Unexpect's resemblence to KoRn is little bit worrying.

Just got back from Dragonforce, SOnata Arctica and Taking Dawn...

Taking Dawn played for 30 minutes and were pretty kickass, they seemed to combine power metal with thrash metal and punk influences pretty good - Also even though no one was rocking out when they started, by the end of their act half the crowd was rocking out.

Sonata Arctica was AMAZING, but they only played for 45 minutes. :(

They played:
In Black and white
Flag in the ground
8th Commandment
Last Drop Falls
Full Moon
The Last Amazing Grays
Don't Say A word!
The VOdka song
While they were great, they didn't play anywhere nearly long enough. :(

Then DF played, while i'm not a fan of their recording stuff I really enjoyed them. All the band memebers were so bubbly and fun that the show was fun, and they didn't suck like people say they do live.

Yeah their guitarists were getting pretty slopy at the end because they were drunk, but they played perfectly at the beginning.

Also, their keyboardist and Henrik of SA had a five minute keytar war - It was immaculate, Henrik went easy on him. :P

Going to bed, to exhausted. :D

So i finally got around to finding a decent set list for you. I remembered all the Megadeth songs, just not the Slayer ones (all of them anyway). I finally found out why Slayer didn't encore/why it was more or less Slayeroke as someone else put it. Tom Araya totalled his voice or something of the sort. Oh well, still kicked ass.

Megadeth:

Set The World Afire
Wake Up Dead
Hangar 18
Skin O' My Teeth
Headcrusher
Devils Island
In My Darkest Hour
Tornado Of Souls
She Wolf
Rattle Head
Symphony Of Destruction
Peace Sells

encore:

Holy Wars/Mechanix/The Punishment Due
With the obligatory "Silent Scorn" set as the outro.

Slayer:

World Painted Blood
War Ensemble
Jihad
Psychopathy Red
Mandatory Suicide
Hate Worldwide
Disciple
Dead Skin Mask
Hell Awaits
Angel Of Death
South Of Heaven
Raining Blood

May be missing a few Slayer songs, but that just about sums up the night. I missed out on a fair bit of Double Dragon, but they kicked ass from what i was there for.

I would've loved April, and Count of Tuscany too man. Woud've been CHOICE and NOICE MOIT.

Plus I like the new Opeth album.

That's a good set list from Megadeth, though I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm seeing them and Slayer on Tuesday. SWEET. My second ever famous metal band concert.

Yes, the first was DT. And yes, I got the best set ever that Nev never got.

Just played a very short notice show opening up for a local band here called 4justice. The band that was going to open for them had to cancel last minute, so they sent me a message, and we played, It was sweet, except for we messed up one of our songs really badly.

Well they swap the setlists around all the time to keep things fresh. Thats why me and Ponos get to have this DT Top Trumps thing :).
And they really like playing In the Name of God. I think its on all the live albums and they've always played it fully or in a medley whenever I've seen them. I imagine its to keep Myung happy :P.
