They got more popular when Angela joinned because they started playing a more commercial and mainstream type of metal. The fact that she's a girl does make em more popular... but it really isn't "obviously" because the vocalist is a girl.

and I can't see why they are so dissed by metalheads in general. I think they did record a lot of good stuff...

Angela does the vocals well, she's in a MeloDeath band and she pulls off the style. She'd never cut it in the less melodic Death Metal world but she's by no means incapable.

False... Equilibrium's bassist is awesome... Abigail Williams keyboardist is awesome, the girls from Flagitious Idiosyncrasy In The Dilapidation are fucking awesome. Infact, ages ago I was even given thrash recommendations, although it was only a few but better than nothing. Infact, I still need to check out all the recommendations from here and now is a good time to look back at them since listening to Candlemass' debut album has sparked more interest in doom metal for me. :) I think it's about time I gave the genre a real try.
