Welcome to the light side. c:
Talking about power metal...
it's funny how all geeks like Sonata Arctica and DragonForce

Power metal = geek music :P

You know, I was thinking the same thing. As much as I hate to admit it, look at all of the AMVs on youtube. 90% of them are Power Metal... or Linkin Park.
That's probably why Dragonforce is going to tour with the support of Sonata. Nerds love both to death.

Fucking nerd fags... even though I kind of hang out with them.

Anywho, the second list you posted looked decent enough, but change your attitude or Big (little) bad Ponos will shred the nerve ends right out of your asshole in no time at all ^_^

Hmm, well I happen to like every type of metal. Metalcore and nu is awesome, while Death and Thrash is also awesome.

I'm sorry

I´m a total nerd, power metal is one of my least favorite metal subgenres. I only like Helloweens first 3 albums, and a few Blind guardian songs.

Theres a few fans here (if not more), yes.

I'm one, but I'm not overly fond of them. Its fast and stuff and its decent Black Metal but everyone raves about how angry they are, and in that department they fall short because I've heard Dystopia :P.

Also we ask that you post 10 bands in order to be accepted in this place. We don't discuss -Core/Nu-Metal in here, so none of that :).

Also on this topic of drinking, do any of you have any specific awesome 'drinking songs'? I basically listen to anything, but i prefer faster stuff and on the odd occasion black metal really makes me spin out.

I don't really listen to any specific when I'm drunk because I'll always be out and so at the mercy of shitty DJs and their awful tastes in music.

But I imagine listening to Tankard, Alestorm and Manowar is hella fun.

Korpiklaani! :D
But for serious... I haven't really listened to any music while drinking. I'm fairly new to the whole thing. I was way too good of a kid in high school.

What do you mean? There are hardly any power metal AMVs on youtube.

I mean, yeah there are a lot of Wolf's Rain AMVs with sonata Arctica and there are a lot DF amvs but other than that.

I mean, there are maybe four or five Blind Guardian AMVs on youtube. Blind Guardian is probably the most famous power metal band other than DF, Manowar and MAYBE Helloween.

That's probably why Dragonforce is going to tour with the support of Sonata. Nerds love both to death.

No, Sonata Arctica are trying to become more famous and so they sucked there dicks to get on that tour.

Nerds love DF, but nerds don't even know about Sonata. After this tour is done though, Sonata will become famous to the general American public and will get as mainstream as DF.

Fucking nerd fags... even though I kind of hang out with them.

I don't know many nerds that like any power metal other than DF and power gauntlet.

Hell, there are shit loads of nerds for those two bands but there are hardly any nerds for the rest of power metal even though most of us like games and mythology and whatnot.

Rokuro, you keep making me think you are less and less of a power metal fan with each statement about power metal and/or it's bands you make.

I have a very urgent favour, I was listening to Pull Me Under and noticed it got cut of abruptly. On MA it says the song length is 8:12, my version is 8:11, I was wondering if I am missing a second, because I know it's meant to get cut off, but in my version it gets cut off before the end of a phrase, and sounds crap.

At 7/13/09 12:05 AM, D3NTATUS wrote: I don't smoke or drink, so can anyone tell me what it's like to get stoned while listening to stoner metal?

It's really good, though describing the effects of marijuana to someone who hasn't smoked it is quite impossible, I'll leave it at this: You feel amazing, your brain goes to other places, and stoner metal sounds great, and so does every other form of music, because being high increases musical pleasure.

Also, I watched a Tony Choy solo on Youtube and it was crap, but I imagine seeing Atheist would absolutely kick fucking arse. What songs did they play? Did they fuck up at all? They do any solos?

i think we've gone over this before; he's got the chops, but he can't solo for shit. it was the same for another tech death bassist.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-07-13 02:56:44

I hope you don't mean old mighty Stevey McDiGorgio. Never heard him solo but I hope he doesn't suck.

Anyway, Greek Black Metal, AWESOME, should've kept on exploring it. Recently got me some Varathron and Rotting Christ, are Zemial, Agatus, Elysian Fields and Septic Flesh worth having a look at?

Also got Arcturus' first two albums. I remember trying to listen to LMI a while ago but failing to understand it, now I can and they're great. What are you guys's's's opinions on Sham Mirrors and Sideshow?

I have the cd at home and the song length is 8:14, but it does cut off in the middle of a phrase.

I really don't know why they did this though, their should be some kind of fade out or transition to the next song. I can't see why a 8 minutes long track should end this way.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-07-13 06:03:04

That's pretty shit then. Does it end at 8:14, because that still means I'm missing three seconds of it. Is it worth asking for someone to upload the song for me, or should I just live with it.... Meh, I'll probably buy the actual CD if I ever see it.

Atheist played Mineral, Air, Mother Man, ...And the Psychich Saw, Unquestionable Presence, Your Life's Retribution, An Incarnation's Dream, On They Slay, and No Truth. Each guy played their instruments well and despite what you guys may think Tony Choy was a fucking beast on bass. He was ripping it up faster than I could possibly imagine. His solos were nice actually, so I think that one solo everyone keeps ripping on was a fluke.

Gnostic played too which is basically Atheist minus Choy and Schaefer, and they put on a good show. The vocals are "bro" vocals, but they played well. PsyOpus wasn't that great. I don't like that kind of cacophonous grind too much and they didn't play that well anyway, although the drummer was good. The Faceless put on a brutal show, believe it or not. They were much better than when I first saw them with Meshuggah, thankfully. The Agonist was supposed to play, but their bus broke down, so I jumped for joy when I heard the news.
