Drone is real slow, with very low chords. Most of Sun O)))'s songs are over 20 minutes long.

Damn I watched Live in Marseille (Mayhem, recorded in 2000) and it was fucking AWESOME! Maniac had a mic stand wrapped in barbed wire. Severel times during the songs he would take the barbed wire and use it to wrap it around himself (there was no dearth of barbed wire on the stage) and at the end of the show, his arms looked like they had been stuck in a meat grinder. It looked like (but I'm not sure) he also had an armband made out of barbed wire on, too. As usual, hellhammer's performance was jaw dropping, and quite possibly the fastest I've ever heard.

Blasphemer and Necrobutcher really delivered, and I would reccomend that DVD any day.

Go ahead. Buy Chimera. Or Grand Declaration of War. Or US Legions. Or De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Or Wolf's Lair Abyss. Or any of their countless bootlegs (serious Mayhem fans only) or even the European Legions: Live in Marseille DVD. Most of the "old" Mayhem CD's aren't reccommended to new fans, because of the shit production and the technical inability of the band (Hellhammer wasn't always this awesome, Euronymous wasn't a great guitarist, and Necrobutcher wasn't always good.) But have fun with those releases. Mayhem's first release, Deathcrush, should be steered away from, as it *cough*sucks*couch*. Worst of them all. Still listenable, but not a good picture of what Mayhem is.

Although you can't be bothered buying a Mayhem CD, I think you should give them a try. They're nothing short of awesome.

Drone metal, also known as drone doom, is a subgenre of doom metal that takes the heaviness and slowness of its progenitor to a new extreme. The music consists mainly of distorted down tuned guitars and bass with rare clear (melodic) themes.

One of the most prominent drone bands, Sunn O))), play very, very slow, minimalist bass riffs without drums.

That was taken from Wikipedia but it's best if you can listen to it, you'll soon understand. Sunn O)))'s track Hell-O)))-ween is a perfect example of drone. Although Pelican, for example, sounds miles apart from them yet they're still a part of the drone genre.

I agree with you on the things you said about Deathcrush. It's listenable, but nothing really good.

Sounds like a nice performance there, but I doubt it was as sick as Live in Leipzig ;)

Attila wasn't on the Live in Marseille DVD (just thought I'd let you know, if you didn't already.) And I doubt that Live in Leipzig has any video to it. :( So I can't be sure, this performance was pretty damn sick, Maniac did an interview afterwards. He was fucking MUTILATED!!!! If I can find a video of LiL then I'll email it to you and we can see. (Either that or the Sarpsborg show) and we can do a comparison. The Marseille show was pretty vile, though. Instead of lots of blood, the stage was covered in barbed wire. It was like a fucking death camp. And you could see bits of Maniac fall off of him and on the stage floor. It was that vile. :)

But only after Blasphemer told him to kick it up a notch after the first few songs.

Dude, I was a Korn fan for 6 fucking years before I knew better and I know every fucking song they put out. Their first album was probably kind of original and all that followed just copied the style of the first album. I took the time to listen what Davis was talking about and I've come to the conclusion that he is a fucking whiny idiot.
