But whatever you do, don't buy Diary of the Dead, it's abysmal, and it's a George Romero film too, which is disappointing. Rent it if you're curious, but seriously, it's shit.

Really? I always enjoyed Diary of the Dead. The only part I didn't like about it, is that the main character pays no attention to his girlfriend really... That bothered me.
But I thought the movie was pretty good, because of how different it is than the other films he'd made. And apparently George Romero is wanting to a make a movie called "World of the Dead" or some shit like that, it'll probably suck.

Indeed. They were all about 17 and had short hair.
And so lame, even for their not-Black Metal.

'I CUT MY THROAT, I'LL BE A GOD TONIGHT!'.
No, you'll just be a stupid idiot who wants to be Maniac.

I seriously think that one of the shows writers just read about Burzum and Mayhem and was all like "THIS MUST BE TRUE FOR ALL OF THIS MUSIC." I doubt they even listened to them even since their "black metal" was nothing even near black metal.

Not to mention the whole 'Norweigans are crazy... but these kids are American'.

Most of the time your posts makes sense... but not this time...
Having long hair won't make you "more metal"

and a couple of our most active users are 17 and younger (Ponos, Ryan)

Long hair is more Metal in terms of image. That is a fact.
Doesn't make you more Metal, but makes you look more the part.

And the kids in that had Punky hair. It was well gay.

Ponos and Ryan don't act like they're the biggest people in their music scene and that they'll be gods for putting on a crappy little show.

Did you even watch that show?

No. I was not talking about the kids in the show, but about your statement. I don't think that long hair and bands shirts are going to make someone loo more like a metalhead or fit more into the concept of metal music. You can have long hair if you want to, it's kind of useful to headbang.
And the kids with long hair are more likely going to be poseurs than Metalheads like me, who aren't trying to fit into the community by trying to look badass or anything.

Well you're wrong.
Wearing Metal tshirts and having long hair is going to make you look like a more of a Metalhead than a guy in a blue tshirt with short stylish hair.

Its the image of Metal. If you want to look like a pirate you wear an eyepatch, a hat and some silly clothes. The guy who isn't wearing any of that isn't going to look as pirate like... however well he fits into the concept of Pirates.

This is why poseurs exist. Because people look like X but are in fact Y.

Of course, but I still think that I look somewhat like a metalhead, even though I'm not always wearing bands shirts and I don't have long hair anymore.

this is example isn't good at all. A pirate is not determined by the way he looks, but by his actions. Though pirates still exists today, your making a reference to those with an eye patch and a wooden leg. I doubt pirates today wear that kind of clothing.
Maybe you won't understand the meaning of all this...

I hate it when I go to a show and that I see people with long hair, black trench coat, make-up sometimes, huge boots and their shitty "I want to kill you" face.

And when I see a kid with long hair and a CoB t-shirt, I just can't see how this kid would be any more metal than me :P

This isn't about being a Metalhead. Its about looking like one, regardless of whether or not you are a Metalhead. You're missing that point horribly.

So guys, I have a very important question, a friend of mine told me sometime last month that if anybody follows a music scene, they're labeled as a scene kid, so if we grow out our hair long, wear clothes with the names of metal bands, we aren't metal, we are scene apparently.
I want to know if you guys agree with this, I believe it is complete shit.
Scene kids listen to that shit mainstream music, and metal people listen to metal, yes?

A scene kid listens to post-hardcore stuff, and some listen to regular metal, but they're not considered metal heads.
If you're the typical multi coloured, tight jean wearing, homosexual guy who listens to metal but ALSO listens to post-hardcore/emo/screamo/etc then yes you are a scene kid.

As far as Romero movies, I've seen Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, the Dawn of the Dead remake, Day of the Dead, and Martin. I thought the original Dawn of the Dead was good, but I didn't like the remake, and I didn't really dig Day of the Dead. Martin was...interesting.

Punch your friend in the kidneys for me. If that's true then everyone on the planet is a "scene kid" no matter what kind of music they listen to.

This isn't about being a Metalhead. Its about looking like one, regardless of whether or not you are a Metalhead. You're missing that point horribly.

And your totally missing my point, which is that looking like something (a genre of anything), most of the time just prooves that your much more of a freakin poseur than anything else. Those who waste the most of their time trying to look like something instead of being it are the worst noobs.

Normally the guy with long hair and the freakin trench coat only knows about Cannibal Corpse when you start a conversation about Death Metal, and the only reason why he knows them it's cause he thinks they are rad for using gore on their album covers.

That was never a point. I agree with you, you fucking idiot. All I was saying was the Metal image makes you LOOK more Metal.

You don't even listen. I've made that same point so many times and each time you just reply with the same irrelevant retort.

This is the argument:
Me - They had sort hair and looked like Punks.
*You - They can still be a Metalhead without looking like one.
*Me - Yes, but if you want to look like a Metalhead, there is a specific image to take on. Taking on that image will make you look more Metal than a guy in a suit.

* Repeat.

Look is the important word here.

Ok... and I'm going to make you understand my fucking point AGAIN!
Once you fucking understand that someone who does look more Metal really isn't more Metal, you just stop considering these guys this way. When I look at a guys with a lot of hair and a Metallica shirt I do not see him as being more metal.

If you think this is the same argument over and over again, you are retarded as fuck.

When someome tell you Metal sucks. He is obviously just stating something without having any kind of informations about the subject or is just someone that doesn't know about Metal. Same thing here...
You think someone is more Metal when he has long hair and bands shirts... but once you've realised it's false, you'll never see it the same way.

Do you understand, fucking idiot?

Course I understand. I understand your point.
But its still besides the point and I'm still right.

This guy looks way more Metal than this guy.

I'll say it again, LOOKS!
Who is more likely to be the Metalhead out of those too?

I believe it was Funk who had a big rant about the Metal culture and whatnot and the image is a huge part of that. Long hair, band tshirts, jeans, leather, whatever that is a Metalheads wardrobe.

Not fulfiling that doesn't mean you're not one, and fulfilling it doesn't mean you are. But you are one, and look the part, then you'll LOOK more Metal than the metalhead who doesn't.

Stop bringing this 'yeah, but its irrelevant'. Cause it is, I agree. But its still undeniably there.

I still like the "clean meatlhead" look better. You know... like the guys from Agalloch. These guys are classy and still soooo metal :)

On this, has anybody ever met a Metalhead who actually doesn't like the look?
Someone who has a partial dislike to the whole Metalhead Image?

The only thing that bothers me is the excessive use of Corpse Paint. The guys from Immortal are a good example, haha. However I like the use of it by the members of Marduk.

Also, I'm growing my hair back out again :)

This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

I just recently got an interest for some Metal. I've gotten some songs from Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple; nothing too hardcore. I was wondering if you could recommend some good hardcore Metal bands for me, to see if I like 'em. Thanks.

Though Brutal Death is probably pushing it a bit for a beginner.
Best to start off on things like Death and Opeth.
