Haven't heard it. With most 80s thrash bands I dont pay too much attention to the more current stuff.
Is it true they did a complete shift away from thrash?

Oh, I forgot what I've been wanting to post. Time to start some controversy.
Is it me, or are a lot of Norwegian BM bands overhyped or overrated? I think the whole scene is overrated. Here are a list of bands I consider so.
Ildjarn( I hate this band sooo much.) 1349, Dimmu Borgir, Gorgoroth, Old Mans Child, Zyklon, Zyklon B though not as much as Zyklon, Dodheimsgard ,Satyricon (esp the new stuff!!!), darkthrone, taake, carpathian forest, and last but not leat, Burzum (yes i said it!!! though Filo was pretty good)
I like the old Mayhem, Immortal, Ulver, Sort Vokter, Aura Noir, and Limbonic Art though. And let me just make it perfectly clear that there are some albums by bands on the Overhyped and Overrated list that I like as well.
I am missing some bands in all of this. Does anyone else feel this way?

Ildjarn( I hate this band sooo much.)
way overrated
1349, Dimmu Borgir,
1349 is overrated, but DB isn't. Everybody knows Dimmu suck. Have you seen the MA ratings for their latest albums? Gutter shit. DB are rated as "fail" and fail they do.
Gorgoroth,
STFU that's one of my favorite black metal bands
Old Mans Child,
overrated
Zyklon, Zyklon B though not as much as Zyklon, Dodheimsgard ,
Actually those are pretty damn good
Satyricon (esp the new stuff!!!), darkthrone,
Supreeeeemely overrated
taake, carpathian forest, and last but not leat, Burzum (yes i said it!!! though Filo was pretty good)
Carpathian Forest can be kinda suck nowadays but really all of those are pretty good, though Filosofem kinda sucks (My favorites are Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Det Som Engang Var)
I like the old Mayhem, Immortal, Ulver, Sort Vokter, Aura Noir, and Limbonic Art though. And let me just make it perfectly clear that there are some albums by bands on the Overhyped and Overrated list that I like as well.
New Mayhem kicks ass as well. Ulver's black metal is good but really overrated, Ulver is my favorite band because of their stuff from Themes and on.
I am missing some bands in all of this. Does anyone else feel this way?
I feel what you're saying. Norwegian black metal is treated like british heavy metal -- "it's from the fatherland, it's absolutely certain to be good." But there are overrated bands everywhere (Slayer anybody? Pantera? Nargaroth? Dream Theater? Helloween?) and that's kind of a fact of life. People will often gravitate towards the more accessible/popular bands first, and some are content to stay there. Others will dig deeper and find more niche music.
Still though, Infernus' Gorgoroth>Gaahl/King (Bitch)'s Gorgoroth.
HAIL INFERNUS
And while I'm in a double posting mood, Galneryus, japanese power metal
At 3/2/09 10:47 AM, TwilightFox wrote: Awesome suggestions, man. I've heard Acid Bath, Megadeth, Amon Amarth, GWAR, and Morbid Angel, but I'll be sure to give the others a listen.
No problem.
That would be great, thanks. For me, the heavier the better!

Anyone seeing these guys besides me?
Yay it's supposed to be 52 saterday! I like winter btu a break would be nice.
also new siggy!
I picked up an Album by a band called Vision Divine. In typical OTT advertising fashion the album was described as being a revolution of melodic metal. It was not. It was in fact rather dull and boring in that it was really cliche on the listening I gave it. Maybe it'll grow on me, but at the moment I'm gonna stick to other bands...and rocky Horror Picture Show... had the timewarp and Sweet Transvestite stuck in my head sicne last Tuesday...
my friend ben just asked me if there's any acoustic metal.

yeah i know, but i wouldn't consider those albums musically "metal," though they are by metal artists. i gave him this whole explanation about how distortion and electric instruments are a defining characteristic of metal and stuff.

Axiom by Akercocke? It's got a lot of acoustic parts in it.

I was joking if you couldn't tell. I know it was subtle, but I wasn't being serious.
Have any of you heard 1349- hellfire? It's got to be one of the most depressing evil black metal tracks I've ever heard. I love it!
