they really aren't that bad, but I listenned to some stuff from their new album, and the only interresting song so far is Twilight Of The Thunder God.
As previously mentioned by cornbin Death in Fire is a fantastic song from a overall awesome album.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

meh... too much power chords drilling for my taste :P
I just found out that Cronian has a new album already out. I ought to see if I can get it.
Oh, and Asgeir left Borknagar and is being replaced by some guy who used to be in Malevolent Creation. This must be the first time Borknagar has had an American member. And they're working on a new album, which I believe could possibly be released in January. And they're signed to do two more albums. Also, Jens and Tyr are members again. This is all news to me, maybe not to you guys.

Or me. I don't plan on doing any either, unless you count alcohol as a drug.

I've never heard them and I never really want to.
They seem like one of those trendy Metal bands that a lot of people like just so they seem Metal.
All the poseurs I know like them basically :P.

I wouldn't mind trying acid or mushrooms. I doubt they're as kooky and weird as popular culture suggests, but it still seems like something fun to try.
But I wouldn't want to do drugs regularly. I see them as more of a festival/gig type activity.

The only things I would ever consider trying are shrooms and salvia, and either would be strictly a one-time thing. I would never go near anything else ever. Weed, on the other hand, I figure I'll be doing the rest of my life, though probably not without temporarily quitting a few times when I have to do so.

You're missing out.
They have some damn catchy songs that my friends and I always play when we drink to get pumped and headbang to.
I don't know any posers who listen to them. The posers I know all listen to HIM, CoF, Slipknot and the likes

Oh. Those times when I got drunk, I didn't feel like shit the day after. No hangovers or anything. Maybe I've been really lucky for those times when I got drunk.

That's one of their songs I've heard so far and I have to agree that it's a fantastic song.

i count alcohol as a drug (since it is), but i usually say "alcohol and drugs" so that the distinction is clear.
One of my friends knows bass and another friend plays the drums and i'm learning electirc and accoustic guitar.
We want to just practice playing for a few years but we want to eventually start off a band.
PROBLEM:
My friend on the drums(Kalin) wants to play in a punk and/or rock band.
My friend on the bass(Montana) wants to play in a band similar to Disturbed or if we find a singer who can sing, become a black or death metal band.
I want to make a band that is like a Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Symphony X, sonata arctica, pyramaze, zero hour, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden and Helloween wacko hybrid.
How shall I convince my friends otherwise? I need some good power, progressive, symphinic and technical metal bands that I can use to introduce them to good metal apart from like metallica and Pantera and mabye dragonforce.

That's not a problem, that's an oppurtunity. Either try and blend the styles or dabble in different styles. The first could reduce the lifespan of your band, but make it more interesting from a critical POV.
Yeah, if you combine elements of different genres when you make a band, it'll make the music more interesting. Homogenous styles get boring; innovation's where it's at.
Try to avoid the punk, though.
However with an influence from Disturbed, you can be sure it won't be accepted here :).
Seeing that Thanksgiving is near let me ask you in a metal way What band and what album are you thankful for ever being composed and formed?
Id have to say Amon Amarth-Album Well I've listend to a little bit of everything from each album So Id have to eait till I get Twillight Of The Thunder God to decide. if not that than I choose With Oden On Our Side.

Fuck you, Amon Amarth is a awesome band. Poseres that like them should fucking die

Best AA song is Prediction of warfare, in my opinion.

Yeah he's a cock joke don't listen to him I was told to ignore him. I advise you do the same.
This is a song I made for a demo I guess, what do you guys think.
And I know on the drums I get kinda messed up in the middle but I decided to keep it in there because honestly I dont even care
Only black is true, only death is real.

Good.
Because It's Raw as fuck.
but yeah, the drums fucking up Gayified it.
Music being badly recorded is such a shitty reason for liking something.
There is nothing arty about not being able to use a microphone.

I guess i take a more moderate view here.
On one hand, poorly done production adds to the charm and rawness of black metal albums to a certain degree. On the other, shitty production gets in the way of the musical integrity. Plus, liking it solely because of the production is stupid.
yeah.
At 11/18/08 09:31 PM, D3NTATUS wrote: On one hand, poorly done production adds to the charm and rawness of black metal albums to a certain degree.
To a degree, sure. If the music is good I can understand the charm.
And wasn't there a financial issue on early BM music? Thats understandable. But it really isn't hard to make a decent recording nowadays, what with the digital age. I think its just lazy.

yeah.
To quote Kidd:
"Good.

Dear, dear, dear.

Yeah that's what i mean. If the production's good, it should be good music to back up the bad quality.

there's also ulver's album that was recorded in the forest on a 4-track. they were paid 100,000 by Century to record it, and they just spent it on other shit. good album, though I know alex doesn't like it hahaha

Kidd has the heart and soul of black metal if you know what I mean.
