Ahhh. Apologies, I came down on the wrong side then.
Yeah, Edguy are bland (but I'm just talking about Edguy there).

I stick to my recommendations. Hansi from Blind Guardian has a deeper voice than most commercial PM acts. And Iced Earth are like... American. So you know you've got some testosterone in those testicles... is that where testosterone is produced/stored/whatever?

Although on the Angra front, I demand you to at least check out the song 'The Shadow Hunter'. It has a fantastic classical guitar intro. I think you'll really appreciate it. You might be able to appreciate a lot of Angra's stuff actually. Seeing as they have amazing guitarists in the band... and they're more Prog... but I'm not sure if you like that sort of stuff.

I like progressive, I'm open to power metal as long as it's not all that Poppy shit.
I heard an ACTUAL power metal song the other day, and the chorus went:
"I WANT YOU TO KNOW, THAT YOU'RE MY HERO! etc."
There's nothing Metal or manly about that.

But you like actual Pop music... its kinda weird that you're open minded to that and not to some guy singing melodically... or overly melodically as in most PM cases.
But Angra are very cool. The singer does sing clean. But I wouldn't call it cheesey or gay.

Gamma Ray might be acceptable by you, because Mr. Hanson has that same charm Mr. Mustaine has... in that he can't actually sing, but for some reason you don't mind.
It is quite high pitched... . but it falls under the shred catagory.

Just check out that entire album. Temple of Shadows is fantastic, and very metal. Especially the guitar work, man oh man...

speaking of cheesy power metal, my friend Nick and I make up impromptu dragonforce lyrics and sing them to each other.

examples:

WITH MY SWORD THRUSTED HIGH
I WILL RIDE THROUGH THE SKY
TO DEFEAT ALL THE BAD GUYS
AND THINGS THAT ARE BAAAAAD

WE FLY THROUGH THE SKIES
WITH OUR SWORDS THRUSTED HIGH
WE LIVE FOR ADVENTURE
TOGETHER WE RIIIIIDE

DEMONS, ZOMBIES AND WIZARDS
FALL PREY TO GIANT LIZARDS
THAT BREATHE FIRE AND DO THINGS
WITH GIGANTIC RED WINGS

WE FLY THROUGH THE NIGHT
TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT
AND DEFEND EARTH FROM EVIL
AND TERRIBLE PEOPLE

we always end up following the same pattern, tune and lyrical concepts... just like dragonforce.

I don't like there to be Pop in my metal though, I think those just don't mix.

Do they even deserve the title 'Metalcore'?

They're more like Hard Rock.

They really don't.
They're more alternative in my opinion.
But then again, this is coming froma kid that sorta likes metalcore.
So my sense of music is pretty much "fucked", as all of you would say.

Also, I've finally started with my lifelong dream of being in a band.
^-^
Anyone have any tips for me?

Well, the things that follow are the essentials:

1. You WILL cover a Metallica song
2. One of your band members will be Asian
3. Iron Maiden shirts are a must
4. At least one class of Year 9 schoolgirls will be obsessed with you
5. You're not allowed an opinion if your producer is around

Follow these instructions and you too can release 2 okay-ish albums then plummet into mediocrity.

I know where you're coming from and in fact I'm one of the first people to say anything about Sammet being a pompous douche. In my humble opinion he's become a complete tool. But the albums I mentioned are pretty solid and aren't as flowery as their incredibly generic newer material. They're more like Power/Lite-Thrash almost.

I class them with the likes of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

On Metal, is anyone hear familiar with Sear Bliss?

Really great band I've recently stumbled across, they have a really unique sound, like Mirrorthrone, but slower and more progressive and less DM influence.
