I think Metallica and Megadeth were fairly equal in abilities and lyrical themes until ...And Justice For All. Then Metallica started beating Megadeth over the head with a brick.
Meh, most things good on "Kill them All" and "Ride the Lightning" were written by Mustaine anyway and "Master of Puppets" is horrendously overrated. I do think that AJFA is the best and only truly worthwhile Metallica album though. Still, it's not nearly as good as "So Far So Good So What" or "Rust in Peace", hell, not even as good as "Countdown to Extinction".
Then they decided to be fools and commercialise themselves. Thus bringing them back down to Megadeth's level (Metallica), below Megadeth's level (Load and ReLoad) and below Limp Bizkit's level (St. Anger).
Comparing the more commercial release of both bands, Megadeth also wins:
Countdown to Extinction -> Black Album
Youthanasia -> Load
Cryptic Writings/The World Needs A Hero <> Re-Load
Risk -> St. Anger
Sure, "Risk" pretty much sucks, but I'd even listen to Britney Spears before I'd listen to that piece of shit called "St. Anger".
The new album better damn well rock our socks off.
It won't. Live with it.
