i bought an album from them this weekend, my fourth EN album.

By the way, at the record store I went to (the biggest independent music store in the country), they had Mayhem's Dawn of the Black Hearts. I wanted to get it, just because of the black metal history/legend (and it was only 13 dollars!) but I didn't want to explain to my parents why I was buying a DVD with a picture of a dead guy on it.

Iceland would be funky, but it means me saving up lots of money. Will it be a day or a weekend thing? If so, we need an apartment to crash in.

Good enough for me, I can see the skyline from my dormitory, like less than 20 miles away on the Jersey side. Plus, there are plenty of flights to NYC that can be relatively cheap.

I don't live far away enough for a flight to be the sensible thing. A car ride from here to the city (depending on what part) would be an hour or so, I think. I've been to the city plenty of times. But I still haven't gotten a driver's license.

it's not too bad. I haven't really listened to it much, because i also got albums from my two favourite bands (Streetlight Manifesto and Einstürzende Neubauten) so i've been listening to those like crazy. It's not a bad album, but I'm not really in the mood to listen. It basically just sounds like Vintersorg under a different name, but then again, he's singing for them hahah. It's just kinda generic avant-garde metal (lmao oxymoron).

But its a great album regardless, i need to listen to it more.

Empiricism is one of Borknagar's most consistent in my opinion. Epic was really hit or miss for me and there were several tracks on it that I didn't care about beyond the first listen.

I'm not sure if you mean metal with strong folk influence or metal with folky elements as well as other influences so...

For bands with strong folk influence check out Korpiklaani (preferably Spirit of the Forest first) and Otyg (because I never pass up a chance to suck Vintersorg's cock.)

For band's that use folk as well as many other influences aside from the obvious check out Agalloch, Empyrium (Songs of Moors & Misty Fields is fucking highly recommended. I love that damn album to death for some reason.), In the Woods..., and Woods of Ypres.

Black Metal

The only ones I listen too that you might not have heard of are Anorexia Nervosa, Keep of Kalessin and Darkspace. Darkspace definitely being the most interesting of the bunch is highly atmospheric and generally disorienting and disturbing.

Anorexia Nervosa I don't really feel like explaining because any attempt to explain their sound results in the person explaining sounding like a douchebag. They're Symphonic Black and that's all I'll say. Keep of Kalessin is Black Metal with crystal clear production and their album Armada is pretty epic in my opinion.

I have a feeling you've heard of Summoning already but I don't give a shit. They're epic. If you've listened to them already listen to them some more god dammit.

Progressive Metal

Ihsahn's The Adversary if you haven't heard it yet. That's about all I've got other then TSO but you've heard of them I'm sure. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this one.

Progressive Death Metal

Drawing a blank other then Death which like most of my post here is pretty damn obvious.

As these are the only genres I listen to really.

You should try some Doom or at least some Doom influenced stuff. Candlemass, Doomsword, Ahab, Yearning, Daylight Dies, Novembers Doom, My Dying Bride, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Insomnium and Swallow the Sun are pretty much all of what I have.

They're all vastly different but they're all kind of gloomy in their own ways and it's a nice change of pace every once in a while. I also have to suggest Jesu because they're doom influenced but instead of being doomy and sorrowful they're actually quite uplifting and it's really interesting to listen too. I'm sure Idio or Sense Offender can explain their sound better then I can.

Ulver's first 3 albums folk metal.

For bands with strong folk influence check out Korpiklaani (preferably Spirit of the Forest first) and Otyg (because I never pass up a chance to suck Vintersorg's cock.)

Apart from the vocals Korpiklaani are godlike, and Otyg vocals are making it impossible for me to listen to. So like. I'm dissapointed. I was black metal rasps and chanting please.

Fucking get Blotted Science. They're kinda death-influenced anyway, all instrumental and kickass. Very good and progressive without being wankery (other than the lack of vocals, but I personally believe its both better and that they probably couldn't find a decent vocalist anyway). Swallow the Sun is some kick ass Doom as well, if that wasn't previously mentioned. Sorry, I just skimmed those posts.
