All I knew was that he wasn't allowed to use anything other then a keyboard while in prison due to restrictions. As for political & religeous, I've read nothing on wikipedia or his website to confirm this. It'd be a shame, his old stuff was really good....

I used to be a big Burzum fan when I got into black metal. I still think Filosofem is a great album. But upon becoming a fan, I did a little research. I mean, it is kinda a shame, but the Varg that made all the music you and I enjoy is loooooong gone. He's brainwashed himself into believing a bunch of neo-socialist crap that is worse than most of the NSBM that's out there. Everybody is entitled to their beliefs, but I don't agree with NSBM principles. In this case, it seriously harms the music.

Now that stung alittle. Saying Darkthrone were better then Burzum. I've played Transilvanian Hunger and it the easieist song on the planet. Plus the lyrics on all there songs are boreing. Emperor, perhaps. But not fucking Darkthrone.

Darkthrone was a crappy example, but it was one of the first bands from that era that came to mind. I still really like Emperor, and I do like Immortal as well but I prefer their newer stuff (ATHOW and newer, admittedly). Darkthrone, however, does have a good aesthetic. They've never been talented musicians though. :p I just think Burzum is a bit over-rated. I mean, the self-titled album wasn't very good, and I think he just gets better until Filosofem which, IMO is his pinnacle. I mean, there are differing opinions, but that's just how I feel. There is better black metal out there, IMO, Emperor included.

Just my 2 cents, but it's really an unfortunate waste of money to create patch jackets. Most "normal" people can't appreciate them, so the only real place that you'll get props is shows or other metal-related activities. On one hand, sure, you could just say "fuck you" to everyone else, but, way I see it, metal's really just (totally awesome) music, nothing to make a lifestyle out of.

But they do bare a resemblance to Ice Ages.

So, i haven't been on NG in the last 3 days. Anybody mind summing up the last 2 and a bit pages?

Also, relevant post, anybody know any good melodic metal bands? Im not looking for melodic death, i know a few of them already, but im looking for just melodic metal.

I'm not keen on Decrepit Birth/Nile/Beneath the Massacre esque Tech Death.
Its all too chaotic and noisy for my liking. I prefer the smoother Necrophagist/Psycroptic stylee :).

Without venturing into Mallcore that's pretty damn hard.

But here are a few bands I think could be possibly considered Melodic:
Kittie
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (Samurai and Riders on the Storm. Anything before that is Melodeath)
Into Eternity (Again, could possibly be considered Melodeath.)

Bill went apeshit (the cool way) and was all like kerpow. I believe I made a summary of it on the last page.

Anyway, I tried out Nile-Annihilation of the Wicked, but just like Doom and Black, I can't seem to get into it. Maybe it's because they deviate from the standard Brutal Death formula of 'RARGHRARGHRAGHRAGHRAGH(blastbeat, repeat RARGH only slower)(repeat whole process)WEOHWEOHWEOHWEOHWHEEDLYWEEDLYWEE DLYWEEDLY(repeat).'

No offence to any Brutal Death fans, that's just how I see it. Kind of like how Power Metal is 'DRAGONSDRAGONSFIREDRAGONSFIGHTINGONMYMA GICSTEEDWHOAWHOAWHOAWHOAWHOAAAAWHOAWHOAW HOAWHOAWHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-WHEEDLYWHEE DLYWEEDLYWEEDLY(minor scale)WEEDLY(minor scale played even faster)KNEOWKNEOWKNEOWDODOODLY!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!'

I could go on, but unfortunately I have to do something else.

Then how come you listen to Horde? It's a very strict Black Metal band as far as music goes.
The only difference is the Christian/Anti-Satanism lyrics.

But anyway. Nile vary a lot from most Brutal Death as they focus more on the Technical side of the music. Take there drums for example, they are the first band that comes to my mind when I think of technical drumming.

Well, by the looks of things, this is going to be a great birthday. I got Killzone: Liberation, No More Heroes, Turok, Unreal Tourny 3, and God Of War 2. I also got a Space Invaders T-shirt, a Pac-Man one, and a Simpsons one, Turisas - Battle Metal, and a bunch of other stuff.

2 more things: Smeagol, please piss off. If I wanted some dick head calling me an alt without any proof I am whatsoever, wouldn't you think I'd ask? Please stop being such a whiney faggot, and when Kidd gets back from Florida, don't suck his cock like you always do.

I couldn't get into it either, or maybe I just didn't give it much of a chance. I'm really really picky when it comes to death metal. If I find one band too repetitive, I'll reject it.

And I listen to DragonForce, lolol.

Just listening to some Melechesh, I think I'm in love : D

Anyways, anyone got some bands to recommend that have a similar style to The Berzerker/Saposmittz. I'm really into techno/brutal metal cross over music since listening to my saposmittz collection again.

On that note...

If a Wiccan decided to start a black metal band, would it then be refered to as "white metal"? After all, LeVey says in his book (e.g. Satanic Bible) that witchs and new religeious movements are "white" or "no kvlt" while Satanism is "black" and thus "tr00". Now, I know not all satanists are LaVey satanists, but it was an intresting point i'd like to bring up...

Black metal and satanism are not as synominous as some people think. Wicca is a 'white' religion in Anton's writtings, but musically, if they follow the popularly accepted conventions, it is still 'black metal', namely Wicca Black Metal.

Just like "Christian Black Metal."

I personally find religious music lame, always have. That goes for music that involves satan as well. Even when I was a religious person it seemed lame to me to sing about it.

I take the same stance. I'm a reformed Anglican now {{OMFG, I'm revealing personal information about myself for once}} but even when I was a hard-core Anton style satanist as a kid I avoided writing songs about religious subjects.

I preffer songs based on real life topics like chav-busting, the angst of life and generally sticking it to the man in some way.
