Symphony X - The Serpent's Kiss

Sucked ass. Gay ass whispered vocals + pantera groove + meshuggah offbeat-timing = not my thing.

Nocturnal Rites - Still Alive

Disappointing. While I liked some of their earlier stuff (Eyes of the Dead, Facelesss God) this sucked. Gayer vocals than before, less emphasis on riffs and good songwriting. Lame.

Dream Theater - Constant Motion

This is supposed to be progressive metal? Sorry, I've heard better in the genre and I guess LaBrie's vocals will always suck.

Sorry guys, that's what I have been checking out these days without overstretching my shitty download limit and all of those have been a waste so far.

Albeit a trivial matter of opinion, their music is far from brilliant. Its technically sound, and it is constructed well, but it lacks dimension in many areas that may not be musicianship. They have always, always failed to move me or show me something more provocative than a bunch of musical-instrument-wankery that anyone with that caliber of instruction should be able to perform.

Not to post whore, but I forgot to address the post in my earlier.

Stoner: Stoner isn't a real genre, in my opinion (Ghoul's might differ, however ; ) ). Sludge, check out earlier Isis, that's a good intro. Just look sludge up on metal-archives under "genre", you'll find something.

Brutal Death Metal: ten million bands in this, and many, many are better than Dethplop. My favorites: Necrophagist, Cephalic Carnage, Atheist, hell, even Cannibal Corpse (brutal enough for me), Deicide, Laethora, shit, there are a ton. Again, check the Archives... (when they work)

Stoner is a genre.

It is a veritable genre, in fact. It's an offshoot of doom metal with groovy 70's influenced riffs and for the most part upbeat.
