It's possible that the game just lost connection to NG API when you were playing it, it happens sometimes. Unless you cleared the cache you should still be able to get the missing medals after you reload the game and re-check the achievements or just play the game just for a short round. I remember having a talk with the author about making the game re-send medals when necessary and it worked for me.

It would be especially sad to see Munguia's games and/or medals go... I personally really liked him...

Thanks for reminding me about it. This case is ridiculous, because you actually need to play Draka 1 in order to get these medals. We discussed this recently and agreed that medals should be unlocked in a normal way, because nobody should be forced to dig for such information. Medals deleted.

As for these ones: complete medium mode, wait for the black screen, reload the game and then you can play hard mode. Let me know if the medals worked for you.

I have a feeling these aren't working because they are using the old NCase html5 implementation of our Flash API. It depends on Heroku to work and every month we run out of free requests around the end of the month. It would be ideal if these games could be updated to use the Newgrounds.io API... Makes me wonder if the source code could get directly edited on the files we're hosting...

Yep exactly. If it uses the nutcasenightmare API then you have to play it more towards the beginning of the month to get the medals. Essentially, the more people playing the games, the faster the bandwidth eats up, the earlier in the month you have to play. I don't understand why it was done this way in the first place, and not hosted on servers Newgrounds controls.

Was this deletion really necessary? The medals weren't broken to my knowledge, and it was trivial to discover how to obtain them, with many comments in the reviews.

And, you don't have to play Draka 2 and Draka 1 to get those medals. You just have to play Draka 1, but they are listed on Draka 2's page for weird reasons.

In this case blyndid and one more person left a helpful comment. But what if there would be no review like this? How somebody that is new to Newgrounds would know how to get these medals? Everything should be clear without having to look at reviews or search for information elsewhere. Otherwise it simply makes the website look unprofessional. All medals should work in a normal way. And if somebody would flag the medals from this game - would be 100% right about it, because playing THIS game does not give you THESE medals. Therefore those medals can be considered broken from the very beginning, because they were improperly implemented.

If you're going to delete medals from games for this, then there is one more game I know of which does the same.

Yeah, I remember that too. In the meantime I had some second thoughts about cases like these and adding the fact that earning medals in flash games is becoming more... problematic. This may need a special approach. I'll have to discuss this with Tom and others.

Please tell me you're not going to remove all the Flash game medals from the site.

Yeah, people may have to go through a few more steps to get Flash working nowadays, but it can be done and in my signature is a link to information on how to do it. This also means, even if an old game's medals don't (yet?) work in Ruffle doesn't mean they are broken in many cases, as, if you set up actual Flash, they still work.

Most of the medals which are actually broken (not merely someone doesn't have Flash set up properly) are when the game author did stuff like requiring a connection to an external website or service which is no longer in service or no longer allows such connections. Why Newgrounds ever allowed (and still allows) this, I don't know, and IMO is a huge mistake, but it does.

For games where everything is contained within Newgrounds, and no external dependencies, and the game has not been changed since the times when everything worked, then everything likely still works. Game-breakers mainly being poorly-thought-out game updates that break things versus earlier less-buggy versions, and external dependencies which break.

when i get a medal the popup does not appear and when i look at the list it does not appear to be unlocked , it is only when i click on it that it actually shows , or does not even unlock even though i made sure to complete it just as it said in the description , and sometimes when i log on i see that some medals i have unlocked are not unlocked anymore, why is it happening?

it happened in such titles as deadswitch 3 or madness project nexus but also in other ones.

Has anyone had any luck getting either of these games to unlock medals recently?

No-one seems to have earned any of the medals in over 2 years.

Ok, I'm convinced Level 9 in the game "In The Dark Place" is not beatable.

The exit is located here, past 5 lasers which have to be deactivated. However, the ceiling is too low! Even going to camouflage mode won't let you through.

Also, one of the mission requires you opening both chests. This one doesn't open.

Deal With the Devil

I'm pretty sure all the medals are broken in this game since some time in 2019 when the last unlocks occurred.

Problem is, the game was originally released as a Flash game, and the medals worked in that, but it was also released in such a way that, if you did not have Flash, then an HTML5 version of the game would instead load but unfortunately the medals never worked in that.

One might think a potential workaround is enabling Flash plugin in the browser (see my signature for an example of such method) but no dice. The HTML5 version seems to be what loads, rather than the Flash version, even in browsers with Flash plugin enabled.

And I know for fact I've completed the requirements for at least one of the medals I'm lacking, and not been awarded it.

Ideal would be if the author would port the medals to HTML5 as well.

Having both a Flash and HTML5 version of a game, is a novel approach I've not seen on the site before, but unfortunately since the medals were not implemented in the HTML5 version, and since that appears to be all that'll load anymore, I have to conclude broken medals game unless someone has some more info on this or some workaround.

And as an extra bonus, it appears the game doesn't even work anymore, at all. You can insert the coin but then you cannot make any selections after that, either in Chrome or Firefox.

And now Deal with the Devil seems to be working again, at least in Chrome browser.

Still the issue of the medals being only for the Flash version of the game, but currently only the HTML5 version of the game being presented to play, however.

Unless the game author ports the medals to HTML5 as well.

I've discovered a way to open the game in newgrounds player:

1. ctrl f the html of the Deal with the Devil webpage for 'newgroundsplayer'.
2. copy the link. should look like: newgroundsplayer:690234_numbers&letters\
3. open the link in a new tab

The medals for the flash version are still working this way. Good luck getting them all; it took forever to beat the game once...

What's the exact link, and do you have one that'll work with Flash (As in, actually using official Adobe Flash and not Newgrounds player)?

If not, at least posting the exact link for the Newgrounds player version for that game might help some people.

If you have an exact link that will force the Flash version that would be ideal.

I don't think I can use Newgrounds player as I'm on Linux and isn't that Windows-only? I could be wrong.

And yeah it's frustrating when you do earn one of the medals but then it doesn't give it to you because HTML5 version. And it's also frustrating that the Flash version won't load in the browser I have set up for that and instead only the HTML5 version ever loads.

My own tips for that game (provided the game is working at the moment for you), would be make heavy use of that Deal button, which generally gives you a lot better odds, but of course there's still that one medal that must be obtained without using the Deal button. Probably the hardest one if I had to guess.

It actually generates a different link each time. You need your own link to be able to unlock medals on your account.

Ruffle doesn't support the version of flash that Deal with the Devil is made with. Which browser do you use that still runs flash? I haven't been able to unlock medals with Waterfox, which is the only one I know.

It does seem to be windows only.

But it's possible to run actual Adobe Flash on Pale Moon browser, with some initial trouble of getting it all set up. 32-bit plugin on the 32-bit browser to be able to run all Flash submissions, or 64-bit plugin on the 64-bit browser works for a lot of stuff, but not anything that used Stage3D (for that you need the 32-bit or game-breaking "wrong wmode" errors)

Should also work with Waterfox though.

It's not exactly trivial to setup, hence my newspost of how to do so, and a link in my signature for anyone who was browsing Newgrounds and wanted to play old games that don't work on Ruffle.

It also requires have the plugins themselves which, to my knowledge, Adobe no longer provides, so it really is a case of hopefully people saved that stuff from years ago.

So this game is causing some trouble:

Some of the medals seem to be unlocking correctly, but some of them, eg. Killer (make 100 cumulative kills) have only had 2 people earn them (the dev being one of them). The medal unlocks in the game, but not on NG.

2 other broken games:

Nothing on Flap Starship is unlocking.

Also, "Finally MAKE IT" isn't unlockable in MAKE IT as an Artist
