Yessss, a jester! In a nice paint-like style!
Interesting ruffs on the neck and wrists, makes it look a bit like there is one ruff but got mirrored against a flat reflecting surface, or perhaps they're simply two ruffs with a W-shaped wave pattern instead of a looping pattern.
Character looks soft and huggable and on the "genuine joy" side of things. Delightful.

Thank you, the ruffle look is just me not wanting to look up references. So I just went with diamonds.

More digital

Tried some lino, will continue to figure this out a bit better, and get better equipment.

Also I finally got around to doing some charcoal studies with line of action, as well as some anatomy breakdown stuff. I only had about half an hour. But I'm gonna shoot for an hour a day on these going forward, might have time later tonight to start that.

have not kept up with this at all whoops!

Here’s a jester I did as an oil pastel test, first time using the medium. Not a big fan, but I can see the appeal as a sketching material or a more visceral sort of tool. Dialing in details not so much.

iu_1402511_2960153.png

the red was not as soft as the other colors and I did not have the patience to fill in all the white for a test.

Anyway, I decided to practice oil pastels because I sort of scribbled myself into a corner with a larger piece and didn’t want to deal with figuring out what I meant to do with all those lines.

Oil pastels are a major pain, especially if you accidentally drag your palm mid way. It can be fun to blend colors with it though. Taking a paper towel to it. Nice for abstracts. Or just a million dots, for that impressionist look. Anything as inconsistent as pastels or paint, is a bit much for me outside of rare occasions. If you try it again, maybe some nature would fit the style easier than a person

Yeah, I'm generally pretty practiced at not dragging my my hand across wet/active media, or at least dealing with fixes when it does happen. As far as abstracts or nature stuff, probably a better way to go about for testing them out, maybe next time.

moving on -

Here's a little character I scribbled today

iu_1403926_2960153.webp

and then a bit of progress on the mess. Right now, I haven't decided how far I'm going to push this with the purple/reddish coloring, or if that's just going to be the underpainting. We'll see.

Inks for a work in progress. Might touch this one up and add some digital inking to make a black and white version

lol forgot about the quality degradation. Don't normally post full size images, or ones where it's not so noticeable.
