oh, too answer your question earlier...id call sublime ska, at least the older stuff. they strayed from it towards the end of thier career. just like No Doubt. they used to be a loud, in your face, type ska band...they got softer and softer over the years and now its just pure crap. anything after Tragic Kingdom sucks. have you listened to any AIC yet?

...i've been here a while...

yup yup... anyone heard of the band yellow card? I got my hands on the cd Ocean Avenue. They're pretty borderline as i can see. They definately have punk influences which i like. But there are definately some rock influences in there which i like too. Gasp...to some could be punk rock. But then they have a fiddle (at least some string instrument thats not a guitar or bass) in their songs. The vocals are definately punkish. Their lyrics are awesome. I'd recommend the songs "Life of a Salesman", "Twenty three".... I hate to say it but i really honestly think that all the songs on this cd are pretty good. four out of five.

oh yeah this is what i mean with my grading system, adopt it if you want its what i mean though:
0 = utter crap avoid and beat whoever listens to it
1 = ok i really don't like it but i can understand why people listen to it
2 = this cd is pretty good at least one or two good songs
3 = this cd makes me like this band
4 = this cd has made me really like this band and i'll buy their future albums
5 = this band is one of my favorites and i'm completely biased so there for you shouldn't listen to me

yeah, I saw there video for "Ocean Avenue". I thought it was alright I guess. Like a 3.5/5 for that song. I didnt hear any others from that band though

Yeah! see this is exactly what we need its ok if you disagree with me. If you diagree I want you to say something as long as its intelligent. Music is all about opinion. And once we know each others opinions we can better select what music we should listen too.

Yeah man! Finally some people who acually understand music. I really like various types of music including Rock, Punk, (Some) Metal, Pop (Beatles), (some) Country/Rock (like Johnny Cash). I don't like country just a bit of Johnny Cash. Anyway, one thing I cant stand is Rap!

Yeah for sure it did.. Rock has been around for a long time. Depends what kind of rock though. Like Elvis, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, AC/DC. Punk Rock was in the 70s like Ramones, Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, The Clash.

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 12:46:02

when first came on i was like who is that? ahh Nirvana Nerd I was used to you being at level five. yes you're right rock was born with elvis etc. I have to throw in my two cents about rap. that was what the 1 out of 5 was for. But i went home this weekend and got alot of my old cds. Once i get a chance i'll wip up some reviews about em.

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 15:30:49

in flames kicks major ass! i have a question , whan i go to a certain level ca i select my skin color for the thingy ? i dont wanna be black!

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 18:31:09

this is the way i see the whole rap issue. while i dont personally like rap, i can see its appeal (some of its alittle catchy). and although they dont bear too many semblances, rock and rap both have roots in the same genre, R&B. no, i dont mean the new crap, but its a very old style of music that, much like all genres, as grown and changed throughout the years and without it, we would have neither rap nor rock. yes, we heard rock first, but whose to say rap wasnt around then, just not mainstream. obviously, it would have sounded much different then than it does now, just as Elvis sounds alot different than say the White Stripes. im not saying i like rap, im just crediting it as a valid style of music. it appeals to its listeners just as any other form of music. and when you get down to it, i would listen to rap way before id listen to country! well, thats my shpeal...

if you wanna know a goth metal band than try listening to : Rush

they claimed that they were aiming at a goth metal perspective , but even tho there metal , they suck

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 19:30:49

Rush, Goth Metal!? lol I dont think.. haha. Yeah I agree with you on the whole rap situation. I mean rap back in 80s, or early 90s was pretty cool I think, but now it is all crap like people talking about bling bling.

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 19:39:35

the band Rush that i stated was a different one that you prob thaught it was , "rush" is kinda like "Kitty" all girls and Hot
and rap is just an excuse for people to be different and have gangs and bling bling and 50 cent sucks

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-23 20:45:25

oh , I thought you meant the Canadian band "Rush". Anyway, all rap today just about sucks ALOT. I mean Snoop Dogg I don't like but he is way more oriniganal then this eminem rap crap.

Has anyone ever heard of SR-71. They were most well known for their song "Right Now". Found there cd Now you see Inside when i went home. Don't have time tonight to listen to all of it and give a review. Anybody heard of em before?

I'm into all kinda of rock, but my roots will always be metal... Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Carcass, Amon Amarth (sp?), Corrsion of Conformity, ect. Even with all that hardcore metal, I'm still into alt rock, punk, old, you get the point. My favorite bands as of this moment..

Not in any certian order

Cannibal Corpse
7-10 Split
slipknot
Pennywise
silverchair
g n' r
beatles
nirvana
glasseater

The list could go on.. but i'll stop for your sake. ><

Anybody ever heard of 7-10 split before?

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-24 00:33:27

Well. Couldn't sleep. So i listened to the rest of the cd. This is a review for the band "SR-71" from the album "Now you see Inside".

I personally like this band overall i'd give it a strong 3 out of 5. Now for the details. lyrically alot of their songs are weak but not as lyrically weak as the Fountains of Wayne's songs though staceys mom has indeed got it going on.

The absolutely best songs stand out by leaps and bounds they would be track 1 "Politically correct" 2 "Right Now". The biggest problem is the band then deverges from the way they play these songs. in other words you can tell its the same band but, the songs are different a.k.a drastic style change. example 1 and 2 sappy punk. rest...well slow rock slash emo slash i dunno really.

But anyway track 5, 8, and 9 suck, annoy me or both. track 10 and 11 are closer to the quality of 1 and 2. The rest of the songs are pretty decent.

This band also beleives in FX you'll here alot of echoes filters etc in the vocals. Chorus, reverb, wah pedal, and of course distortion on the guitar.

I believe if you're prepared for the drastic change in style this is actually a pretty decent band. I remember thats what made me not like them back in the day. But if i come up with the money i'm going to buy their sophmore album "Tomorrow".

Response to Rock Music Club.. 2004-02-24 14:59:15

Awesome, good review. I have never heard any music from the band SR-71. But after your review, I will download a song, and see how I like it.. thanks alot.

Ok guys I'm going to query you with a little problem i have.

I really dislike Avril Lavigne. In fact i often refer to her as the anti-christ. The funny thing is i don't actually know why i dislike her. I listened to her first cd and it wasn't total crap by all means. So then read her interviews and its not like she said anything wrong, but my dislike grew.

So here is the problem. she's coming out with a new cd...and i want to listen to it because i'm curious like that. She says its going to be like Evanescenscenscense and dark more like her. But i don't want to buy it. you know poor little college boy. I don't want to waste what little money i have.
