Yeah, he just embarrassed Georgia this afternoon. There is no real way to stop him; he can run as well as pass with ease and he's practically a shoe-in for his second Heisman.

Speaking of embarrassed, Michigan got beat down by Illinois and Iowa just barely survives. Not a good day for the Big 10.

Penn State roared back after being down 13-0 against Northwestern to win 34-13.

At 10/31/09 05:22 PM, Buddhist wrote: for those of you who picked Buffalo over Houston, please explain to me HOW they're going to win? Ryan Fitzpatrick has a weaker arm than Trent Edwards and is the exact same checkdown QB, thus they really don't have any deep threats even though they should with Owens and Lee Evans. They have Lynch & Fred Jackson, but if all they have is the running game and checkdowns, Houston's D is just going to stack the box all day, wouldn't you think?

I mean I know Houston's D is somewhat porous, but you can't overlook DeMeco Ryans, Mario Williams, Brian Cushing & company. Lotta stud defensive players on there that could have a big impact on the game, especially since Buffalo's o-line has its' share of holes.

Also...Schaub has Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, Slaton, Kevin Walter, Andre' Davis, Jacoby Jones....I mean I know Texas tends to lose a lot of games they're more than capable of winning, but this one I just don't understand.

Actually, Fitzpatrick is nothing like Captain Trent Checkdown. It's also a misconception that he has a weak arm, he doesn't. He hit Lee Evans on a perfect 50 yard bomb against Carolina last week. His problem is accuracy, which is horrible. In fact, neither Trent or Fitzpatrick have a weak arm. Trent is just too scared to so anything but check down, and Fitz just has poor accuracy. At least Fitzpatrick throws to the ball downfield.

And Buffalo has one of the elite pass defenses in the league. If Houston wants to beat Buffalo, they'll have to run it (which Buffalo sucks at defending.) However, with the way the Texans' run game is going, it's nothing that should overpower the Bills defense.

Houston is a weird team. They have all the individual talent in the world, but they usually suck as a whole (at least defensively, and in run offense).

I think Houston will win, but they aren't a FAR superior team by any means.

Joe Pa isn't going to lose to some lowly Northwestern team. No way.

You know, I spoke too soon. USC got run out of Autzen Stadium. It wasn't pretty at all and I never seen USC totally lost from start to finish. Their BCS chances, gone and I'm glad.

I won't be surprised if the ESPN starts to count the Giants out completely, but seriously it's getting ridiculous. But keep in mind the division will not necessarily comes down with the Cowboys in the mix, they actually counted them in last week.

Two of my fantasy teams are benefiting from that game however, but from the projected score it's going to be a squeaker.

Projected scores are not to be trusted :/

The early games have sucked this week; hopefully the Vikings-Packers game can make up for it a little.

As of week 8, they are out. The Saints game was understandable, but in the last 2 games, the Giants practically gave the game to the other team. Hell, today against the Eagles, I felt like.... well, I felt like I was watching an Eagles game. The quarterback couldn't throw accurately, the receivers couldn't catch, and the running game was horrible.

They need to switch up the play calling, and adapt to the game. Even though on every play the receivers were covered, Eli thought it would be good to throw screen passes. There was 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and they were down by 23, so they ran the ball for 3 yards on every down. And 9 drives out of 10, they went run-run-pass, no matter what was going on. In fact, I think just about every second down was a run.

The Giants need to shape up if they want to start winning again.

As for the Eagles, don't crown them Champions yet. They have a few problems:

A) They need the big play to move the ball. If it doesn't go for 7 or 8 yards, it goes for 0 or negative yards. And every touchdown was at least 20 yards, and all but one was over 40. If they face a team that can stop the big play, the Eagles won't score. Or if the face a team that has a defense that can line up correctly and cover the receivers, it'll be a close game.

B) They can't win the games they should. 2 weeks ago they faced the Raiders, and lost. But then they destroy the Giants. McNabb couldn't hit Warren Sapp's mass from 3 yards out last week, but could knock a needle off of a finger this week. They are just too inconsistent to go deep in the playoffs.

Well I'd agree with you on 2 of the 3 analogies there comparing the Giants to the Eagles this week. When McNabb actually throws a catch-able pass the receivers like Jackson, McCoy, Avant and Celek usually make the grab. If you were to say this like 2-3 years ago, I'd probably agree on all accounts.

As for the Eagles, don't crown them Champions yet. They have a few problems:

Oh for sure.

I think this is indicative of an O-line that really isn't doing it's job. I mean I don't care how healthy Westbrook is or how explosive McCoy is, they won't get anywhere without a good O-line effort on the play. What with their issues regarding both tackle positions not playing all that stellar, compounded with McCoy's inexperience in picking up blitzes on blocking assignments, well that just spells trouble against teams that can get in the backfield.

This has always been an issue with the Eagles. See the Bengals tie of last year. There's always that one game of the year against an "inferior" opponent and they somehow find a way to give it away. Then again they also usually seem to find that game to motivate them and do pretty well come November and December. As for the playoffs, I'd agree with them being too inconsistent.

I think the Giants will make it to the playoffs, fighting for a Wild Card, maybe the Division. But they won't go too deep.

Unless Eli threw this game to cover some gambling debts. There's no way he could have been that bad without trying.

Even last year the Eagles receiving corps decided that they should be catching more cocks and less balls

C WAT I DID THAR?

Not only that, but the Giants fucked up about 99% of their coverages today, leaving Jackson wide open and a free lane to the end zone. If any team covers the Eagles receivers properly, you won't have that. Which, of course, would allow for the line to get into the backfield, but the McNabb could still get a pass off with such wide open guys.

Not even 1 game and the playoffs; they'll have close games that they should blow out the other team in. Sure they get the win, but it was a close win.

We may even be so lucky as to have a repeat of 2007; just making the Wild Card, winning 3 games on the road that no one thought we would win, then win the Super Bowl over a heavily favored team.

Actually, that won't happen. We had a much better team in 2007, and even in 2008 (up until Week 11 or so).

Also, the Texans are amazingly 5-3 at the half way point. Is anyone buying them as a playoff team?

So that would make Randy Hanson his "work wife?."

Anywho, week 8 was ugly. So many games that could've went my picks way, but for one reason or another didn't. So I'mma gonna yell at you players/teams!

Miami vs. NYJ: The Jets seemed to have fixed their issues regarding the Wildcat offsense the Dolphins run after they lost to them earlier in Miami. But Ted Ginn... 1 return touchdown wasn't enough? You had to make it 2 so the Jets would lose? Bah.

St. Louis vs. Detroit: Well I can't really be mad at this result. I mean the Rams looked like a team Detroit could actually beat. Then again the Lions looked like a team St. Louis could actually beat.

Jacksonville vs. Tennessee: Way to show up Chris Johnson. You've been pretty hit or miss so far this year when it comes to rushing yards per game. You must be frustrating fantasy owners to no end on your inconsistency. Course that has something to do with the team around you and who you're playing, but you've frustrated me this week by busting out for 200+ and messing with my Jags pick.

Vikings vs. Green Bay: This was actually a pretty good offensive game on both sides. Both QBs had 3 or more TDs with no picks. Green Bay actually won the turnover battle, but failed on special teams and stopping the run. Curse you Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson!

Carolina vs. Arizona: Hey Warner, nice Delhomme impression. But really, you guys knew he wouldn't be asked to do much after the way he's performed and you had to know you'd see plenty of DeAngelo Williams. I guess Jonathon Stewart really rattled you.

Enough of my rants. Picks!

Week 9 Schedule:
Washington at Atlanta -

Atlanta. Washington is a mess.

Arizona at Chicago -

Arizona bounces back. I hope.

Baltimore at Cincinnati -

Baltimore

Houston at Indianapolis -

Colts stay undefeated

Miami at New England -

Pats

Green Bay at Tampa Bay -

Packers

Kansas City at Jacksonville -

Jaguars

Carolina at New Orleans -

Saints

Detroit at Seattle -

Seattle

Tennessee at San Francisco -

49ers

San Diego at NY Giants -

Giants just because I can't see them losing 4 in a row.

Dallas at Philadelphia -

Philly in a close one I'm guessing.

Pittsburgh at Denver -

Oooh, tough one. Steelers

Hey, ten wins. Cool. Too bad my prior-week picks were very mediocre, so my Football Pick 'Em Y! team is pretty average. I was much better a couple years ago, but this year has kind of been one big anomaly anyway, in terms of overall team performances.

This is an interesting week. Most of the early games look one-sided more or less, and the winners look pretty clear-cut; however, the late games are all enigmatic teams up against other enigmatic teams (Dallas-Philly, SG-NYG, KC-JVille, et al). Makes for an interesting week for picks.

ATL
Chi-Town
Baltimo' (let's hope Palmer doesn't have any more GW-drives in him)
Indy
New England
Green Bay (IN THE BATTLE OF THE BAYS)
J'Ville
Nawlins
Seattle
San Fran
Gonna go NYG on this one, but I won't be surprised if I'm wrong
Going with Philly here, but again, if the 'boys win, no shocker
Pittsburgh

In other news...my fantasy teams are still sucking. NG League team moved to 4-4 on the year, but with only 801.64 total fan pts, I'm sitting in 8th place. Another big problem is that I'm down to $56 in WW spending, and am potentially in line for a few more dollar-losses this week with pickups (got bids in on Ryan Moats and Malcolm Floyd, obvs). I benched McNabb in favor of Garrard at Tennessee in light of the past week's play and favorable matchups, and got thoroughly fucked because of it.

Andre Johnson got injured but should be alright, Steve Smith came back to life thanks to a 50-yard TD. My running game is still shoddy (B Jacobs and Jonny Stewart, plus Laurence Maroney @ flex). Shonn Greene is on a bye.

Westbrook might play Monday, but I doubt he'll be all too effective; should be able to tell by Saturday though.

Kevin Walter still sucks, and I'll give him two more weeks on my roster before he becomes a casualty. Now that Owen Daniels is down for the year, Slaton is on the bench, and Andre is recovering from chest injuries, Walter's time is as good as ever to prove he can still be a viable target for Matt Schaub.

Boldin is gonna be questionable again, once again potentially fucking one of my two flex spots. Anthony Gonzalez still isn't practicing for Indy, but I hope he gets back soon because I need him as a contributor if I want to stay in playoff contention.

One of my two Y! League teams, the Buffalo Soldiers, moved to 7-1 and 2nd place in the league. This is my one stacked team. Now on a 7-week winning streak, the team looks like this:

QB - Aaron Rodgers
RB - Frank Gore, Jonathan Stewart, LeSean McCoy, Correll Buckhalter, Laurence Maroney, Justin Fargas (only first two are in the lineup)
WR - Miles Austin, DeSean Jackson, Randy Moss, Hakeem Nicks, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Kevin Walter, Malcolm Floyd (last four are on bench)
TE - Greg Olsen
No kicker, 3 IDP instead of a team D (I have Barrett Ruud, Justin Tuck & Yeremiah Bell as my 3)

My third and final team, the Oakland Raiders, clocked in with another L this week and fell to 4-4 as well. I'm 2-3 in my division, and sitting 3rd in the division and 4th overall. Team's got its' share of question marks:

QB - Schaub, Flacco
RB - Gore, Rashard Mendenhall (flex), LeSean McCoy, Ryan Moats, Steven Jackson (SJax on bye, others on bench)
WR - Austin Collie, Dwayne Bowe, Hakeem Nicks, Anquan Boldin (Nicks and Boldin on bench, might bench Collie or Bowe for Nicks)
TE - Fred Davis (lost Chris Cooley and Owen Daniels to injuries in consecutive weeks, bitchslapped)
K - Gostowski
D - generally streaming, this week Seattle because they play Detroit

My starting TE is now Bo Scaife.... and I'm so desperate for anyone to do anything, I'm using Mike Bell and Mike Crabtree at the flex position. Additionally, McGahee has now officially had more splinters in his ass - than touches/rushing yards over the last 3 weeks, with astounding fantasy production numbers of:
2 rushes for -1 yard, 1 catch for 4 yards. (0.3 fantasy points)
7 rushes for 3 yards. (0.3 fantasy points) *BIG WEEK FOR HIM!
1 rush for -2 yards, 1 catch for 4 yards. (0.2 fantasy points)

That's an average of you guessed it, 0 rushing yards, over the last 3 games.

So there is sucking... then there is SUCKING.

What can you do. Week 9:
Atlanta Falcons > Washington Redskins
Arizona Cardinals > Chicago Bears
Baltimore Ravens > Cincinnati Bengals
Indianapolis Colts > Houston Texans
New England Patriots > Miami Dolphins
Jacksonville Jaguars > Kansas City Chiefs; would've taken KC if they had Johnson
Seattle Seahawks > Detroit Lions
San Diego Chargers > New York Giants; all or nothing on the upsets this week.
Carolina Panthers > New Orleans Saints; 2 upsets in a row, undefeated, I don't believe and they Saints can be run on.
Tennessee Titans > San Francisco 49ers; Make it 3. C'mon BO SCAIFE LOL.
Dallas Cowboys > Philadelphia Eagles; 4. Romo-Austin is this years hot couple in Dallas and the Eagles are a Jekyll and Hyde team
Pittsburgh Steelers > Denver Broncos; Have to go with the favourite here, but I had a good run.

No idea how I completely missed that game.

Man, Cleveland is a mess. Aside from their horrible 1-7 start, the owner now denies firing GM Kokinis, but doesn't exactly say he quit either. Supposedly he didn't ever get to have any input on the player/personnel front, even though he had final say in such matters in a contract stipulation. Guess he thought it would be all buddy-buddy with his pal Mangini, but Eric wants to run the show solo. Course that hasn't really worked well yet for him.

Mangini Strikes Again!

Obligatory College Football Post for this week:

Key Games:
#9 LSU at #3 Alabama
#8 Oregon at Stanford
#16 Ohio State at #11 Penn State
#12 USC at Arizona State
#24 Oklahoma at Nebraska

--

There really isn't much intrigue this week. The two best games are LSU/Alabama and OSU/Penn State, which are sub-par at best. LSU defense will have to show up in order to stop from being run out of Tuscaloosa; I see the Tide Rolling. In OSU case, Pryor will have start playing smart and cut all the turnovers at key moments if they want to have a chance. However I think JoePa and the D will get the best of him.
