Of course the VP list is easier to update manually than Dogma's lists. It's easier than the pentalist, too. It's a single stat list. Dogma's lists are 2 stat (with tons of extra stuff in 'em, of course), and the pentalist is 5 stat. And more importantly, there are 1000+ people on Dogma's list, but only 500 on this one.

Hey, does anyone know if it is possible to format the numbers in Excel so that any number that you put in a box will change the number from lets say "3333" to "_3333"? Any way to make the numbers go out to a certain amount of digits and put underscores in the places that don't have numbers? Just a thought, cause it would make update times 10 times easier.

Dogma already obviously addressed all of this. There's GOT to be a way to do it somewhat easily. But I have no idea what it is. So I can't really add anything that Dogma didn't already say.

If *I* were you, I'd just put 03333 like I do on the pentalist. I USED to do the whole _ thing, but I decided it wasn't that important to make it obvious that a number isn't 5 digits. Anyone actually looking at that line of the list is going to notice the 0s in front of a non-5-digit number unless they aren't looking very closely. No one's going to mistake 00356 for 10356, for instance.

But if you MUST do the _ method.... it seems you'll have to keep on manually doing it, or else set up the thing Dogma was talking about with the IF statements and all. NGling was an expert at those, he set up the VP list's spreadsheet with plenty of them for the output data column. If only he was around, he could probably whip something up for you or just tell you some method of doing it fairly easily.

The new 1.2 is nearly perfect.

Only things I'd change:

A) when I first start it up it gives a "Error running program: There is no application associated with the given file name extension. This error will also be returned if you attempt to print a file that is not printable." message. The weird thing is, when I hit OK... and then open the program again... the second time, it has no problems! WTF? #;-}> So, a weird bug, but it doesn't stop me from running the program on the second time, so...

B) the posts output file leaves a space in front of EVERY line of data now. Kinda weird. But it pastes into Excel fine, so it's not a huge deal. Still, no other datatype does that, so... kinda weird.

C) It'd be really nice if the input file, the settings file, etc.... wouldn't default to *.txt. With NG Lister, I just make all the files blank extensions (like VPinput ... no .txt at the end). That way, dealing with many input and output files doesn't jam up my Recent Documents list with tons of crap. I tend to use my Recent Docs for a lot of things, and files get pushed off the list (which holds only 15 things in Win98SE, I dunno about later versions) when I open up so many .txts. Blank extension files I have set to open with notepad automatically, but they don't end up on the recent list. So it's a win-win situation. Your program DOES let me OUTPUT to blank extension files, so that was good.

(or the program being 4 megs instead of a few hundred Ks, like NG Lister is, in combination with that), but it took quite some time to grab data, and I kept getting timeouts and the like.

No, the actual program is only 128 Kb, the rest is all VB runtime support due to it being a VB6 project with a couple of custom dlls. On the initial run it's always slow for me, but if I restarted it it usually ran near as quick as SK's program. Hmmm.

And now like 156K or something, with the newest update. I gotcha. Well, if you count all the .NET stuff we had to install to run SK's program, I guess his isn't so small either. #;-}>

My two current lists are non-issues as I have single output columns from NGling's formula that I mentioned earlier.

Your week's gain will probably round up to 0.14, yes. But it could be 0.15 or 0.13, as well. We'll find out on Saturday. Depends on a lot of things (like whether your VP ticked up by 0.01 the day BEFORE or the day OF my last update... and thus won't change as much this week... or whether it was a FEW days before the last update, in which case you're likely to have an extra 0.01 this week, for example).

A) the new official top 50 VP list debuts this week, which I doubt will happen.
B) I'm out of town or something, which won't happen.

The update AFTER this update, if there is one, will be on the 22nd, yes.

well yea.. it kind of has been becoming a pattern for me in terms of VP increases at a slow rate from just depositing. My VP goes up .01 per week it seems which is nice.

I also have a question for you gfox.. and don't hate me cuz i don't know this. so here goes... There's two users at the same level... one has a very high BP level and the other has a very low BP level... does having a high BP level make a difference in terms of increasing VP from depositing?

Yes it does. The bonus % is higher, so it goes up more each day, yes.

I was more making sure of the schulde, I noticed thet rend, but I just wanted to make sure. I have a range of dates 20-26 where I will have the right VP. Yes I took the time to figure it all out.. It takes 6 days for my vp to go up .01. I rememebr when it was 3 then 4...etc :(

I knew what you meant. I simply found a way to type a longer text than it was necessary :O. haha, here's some weirder races: "the first to get 10000 stickers" or "the first to make 10000 alt accounts", etc. You are partly right though, the lowest vp at EGSC will constantly be challenged by fast low level users or users that keep b/p ing without depositing so Ya_Ya will only win that race temporarily.

Welcome to this weekend's update of the Top 500 Voting Power List! #500 is up from 7.32 VP to 7.33 VP. The number of tracked people in the spreadsheet is frozen at 1283 until ShittyKitty gets back from his winter vacation in mid-January and resumes data pulls for his NGTL.

There were three rankups in the top 100 VP this week. Congrats to alhill, Denvish, and Quadraton. Things are finally settling down after many weeks of abnormally high rankup numbers. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few weeks in a row now where we don't break 5 in the top 100. Too many people getting into the General ranks (hell, the top 50 b/p list will soon be nothing BUT Brigadier Generals and up).

I'm pleased about a few things this update: James has moved up from his spot at #100 to #96. After making the list a THIRD time, I think it's fairly safe to say that he's in the top 100 for good (unless he stops depositing). He's got quite the safety cushion right now, and one more rankup on his part in the next month or so should seal the deal. jonthomson didn't move up or down in ranking this week, which means he's still poised to enter the top 100 with his next rankup. Also, QuikFox has finally gotten around to ranking up, and he's 0.10 behind joobie, so... looks like their little rivalry is heating up again. BEST GET RANKING UP SOON, eh joobers? #;-}> Hm... what else... Bonus got a +40 (!!!), so I'm sure he'll be fine with that, even though it's not divisible by 3 like the +3s, +30s, +33s, etc. etc. etc. that he's accustomed to getting. And... yeah, that's about all I can think of to talk about right now. Not much action in the top 50 today, but that's to be expected with how many EG General rankups we've had in the past month or so. There's going to be a bit of quiet now (before any of the storm returns). One last thing: this update was made with SK's new 1.6.1 version of NGL, and I'm happy to report that everything worked fine. I hadn't upgraded my version since 1.5, because while he added some new stats to pull, I always liked the 1.5 single page design, and 1.6.1 has the 3-tabs layout I don't like quite as much (as you can't see at a single glance what data you're pulling). But, of course, you can just plug your customised setup file in and not really worry about it anyway, so... that's what I'm doing. As long as my files (VPname and VPinput) are filled up with usernames and current VP numbers when the program's finished running, I be happy! Last week you were 13.35 (+0.01) and this week you're 13.36 (+0.01), so... on the one hand, it's POSSIBLE that the 22nd update will be the day. But there's also a slight chance you're (UNCH.) next update.

I think a large part of it will be whether or not the humantarget52 account has been deposited for or not yet. Today, everyone got a slight boost in VP because it hadn't. If I update early on the 22nd, you'll probably be at 13.37... but if I'm not able to update until later in the day, it's possible you'll get knocked down from 13.37 to 13.36 by HT's deposit kicking in. If I can, I'll try to update it earlier in the day. :::nods:::

As for the VP slowdown, yeah... Yoink's got around a 6-7 day cycle going right now, I think. A few months ago I had 3 days between every 0.01, since then it's been 3 some of the time and 4 some of the time. Within the past few weeks, though, it's shifted entirely to 4 days. No more 3s for me.

I'd expect that by February, my first 5 days at a single 0.01 amount are gonna happen, and then it'll be back and forth between 4 and 5 for awhile. Ah well. Such is the way of things.

haha, here's some weirder races: "the first to get 10000 stickers" or "the first to make 10000 alt accounts", etc. You are partly right though, the lowest vp at EGSC will constantly be challenged by fast low level users or users that keep b/p ing without depositing so Ya_Ya will only win that race temporarily.

The first to get 10,000 stickers is just about the stupidest NG race in existence. I mean, I thought jockeying for spots in popularity ranking was lame, back in the days before it was eliminated (September 2003), but... 10k stickers makes THAT look like a good idea. #;-}>
