So, the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes have reopened, with his contract being nullified. Will he land in New Jersey for a third time, or will the LA Kings get their man?

Fuck Kovalchuk. It's a good thing hockey isn't as popular here or else I feel that he'd be getting LeBron/Strasburg level exposure on ESPN.
Kariya is out for the year with post-concussion syndrome...'bout time to hang 'em up Pauly.

Peace to Richard Park...sixteen years in the NHL, signed for three years with Geneva-Survette of the Swiss League.
I honestly didn't know he'd been playing since eighteen. He's definitely going to enjoy playing in the Swiss League though. Beautiful country, beautiful landscape, incredible arenas (and about a 1500% upgrade over playing on the Nassau ice), having a higher line role (instead of being a 3rd/4th line center/wing with time on the PK), and prolly gonna get paid a lot more, since the foreign leagues tend to have to pay a little extra to get NHLers to come over.

So, how's Sutter completely fucking the Flames again?

The main thing the flames are getting fucked by is Alzheimers and practice/bed time conflicts. Need to get some new guys in there dude.
Can't wait for the regular season. It's been too long, watched my first preseason game the other day.

I watched Vancouver win 4 - 1 against Anaheim, and then last night I watch them lose 8 - fucking 2 against the Oilers. I can't wait till Vancouver's first game... October 9 or 13, I think...
suck it Cammalleri.
way to go above and beyond what counts as treating a rookie poorly, fucking douche.
gonna be a rough start to the season this week. Eager to see what JT, Comeau and Bailey do, though.
also...time to maybe hang 'em up, Bill Guerin (and Manny Legace, and Brendan Morrison...)

As an Avalanche fan living in Illinois, a state full to the brim of fair weather Blackhawks fans who up until the Western Conference finals didn't even know Chicago had a hockey team, I really enjoyed talking shit on facebook to them all as Stastny knocks in the overtime goal in the season opener. Good stuff. The team looks like it's picking up right where it left off. What it lacks in experience, it makes up for in grit determination. Love watching them play. Suppose that's what happens when damn near the whole team rooted for the Avs growing up. Mueller is out "indefinitely," which sucks because he was on a TEAR at the end of last season after we picked him up. Still not lacking in offense though, Turco is no pushover and we were all over him. What do you think Coop? Think we can outdo 8th in the conference this year?

Some impressive play by rookies last year now needs to be backed up by impressive play by sophomores. We're looking at Stastny perhaps scoring more goals than last season (20), which would be nice, as both he and Matt Duchene get their goal accounts opened on day one this year.
If Stewart, Stastny, Duchene and Hejduk can have good seasons, we're looking in good shape. Potential exists for a breakout season in the shape of David Jones, plus more rookie talent from the farm system. Good to see that the Avs are shooting lots of pucks. Long may that continue.
We're still vulnerable at the back, but with Anderson in net, we might find some teams lacking in the goals scored department. Perhaps Budaj will see more time in net as well, like a proper backup, so Andy isn't burned out on the stretch run.
Jordan Eberle's first NHL Goal was a peach and the only problem this provides if four visages of Nikolai Khabibulin on the nhl.com stats page.
Thought I'd share this from the very excellent "Down Goes Brown" blog in Toronto:
October 9, 2010 - The Chicago Blackhawks raise their Stanley Cup banner prior to their game against the Detroit Red Wings. The moment is marred somewhat when Detroit third-liner Kris Draper
surveys the rafters and comments "Wow, Chicago, you've won four Stanley Cups? Me too!"
I know this post is completely plagiarized but it's still kind of funny.
Season starts tonight for me, I'm pretty excited.
Red Wings beat up on the Ducks, 4-0.
This is the best season opener since Yzerman's buzzer beater.
Couldn't be much better! Pavel Datsyuk has a Gordie Howe hat trick, Jimmy has a shutout and gives the glove to some Duckie, and Modano scores. Franzen and Danny Cleary with the other goals.
I don't think Datsyuk will be getting the Lady Byng this year.... Still, a very exciting opener! Fans were singing at the Joe in Detroit.

Actually, switch Buffalo & Philadelphia
Tonight is going to be awesome.
Back to back games of Toronto - Detroit - Vancouver.
And Frenzy, I mainly agree with your list, but you can stick Vancouver up a spot or two.
Tons of games tonight, going to watch Leafs Sens of course.
Frenzy you have Detroit and Chicago finishing 1 2 and they are same division! Also no way Colorado is dropping to last in the west. Carolina is going to be in I think as the upset team instead of NYR with Staal healthy and Ward playing in top shape.
Most exciting team for me this season will Edmonton, they are fast as hell and young with a proven goaltender. Finished dead last previous season so they are playing with little pressure which is great for the rookies and they'll be very fun to watch.

Care to put some money on that? I'll have a punt for $50, if you want.
wish I had Versus.
I get the NHL Network in my friend's room, but they only show some regional games. doesn't look like I'll be able to catch the Isles' home opener against Dallas tonight, but if I'm lucky I can get a game or two.

Burke is turning things around!
First match for Vancouver, H. Sedin is named Captain (no surprise there), it was going well until Kesler drew a fucking stupid penalty and eventually went to shootout where LA stole a victory. And it was a good game up to that point. Kesler, I would have preferred him as Captain until this point. That was fucking retarded.
Nothing against the guy, but you don't draw a penalty 4 minutes before the game is supposed to end. Really good plays by both teams, Samuelsson really wants to get a goal and that's what I like to see. Quick looked really good as did Luongo and the showcase of Hamsuis, Malhotra, Ballard and Torres gives this Nuck fan hope.
LEAFS. Who knew all you had to do to raise Kaberle's game was extensively bully him in the media? They should have publicly shopped him around years ago. He still will not throw a body check for the life of him, but at least he's shooting now. Also, Kessel is an elite offensive player; anyone who says acquiring him wasn't the right thing for the organization to do is wrong. Maybe Seguin will be that good someday, but Kessel is the now, and the dude is still only 23.
Derek Stepan, 4th player in NHL history to record a hat-trick in his first career game - on Ryan Miller, to boot.
A friend in need is a friend indeed, but a friend with weed is better.

I have Versus, but Dish dropped my local Fox Sports, which means I can't watch my hockey in HD. Fuck you, Fox and Dish, you can't settle your disputes like mature adults.
I was too sick to stay up and watch the result of the Detroit - Chicago game, but I didn't miss any goals.
Holy shit, has anyone else noticed how annoying Chicago's goal celebration song is? It drove me crazy last night.
