Some medals however, don't seem to work. The one for beating level 2 didn't unlock, nor did the score 10,000, or 25,000 on Infinite mode.

That game wasn't fair man, it's like the author rigged it so you can never win. Even if you do, it's still a slim chance since it's still impossible.

Not really. I found a few strategies that seem to work. One is to try and avoid killing the gorillas, and luring them to the bottom of the screen. They will always go after the nearest student. You can also, sometimes, make them appear only on the lower half, if you move you character down one space at the start.

I usually send one, or two, to up to the dais, on different sides of it, while leading one to the golden mallet. Sometimes, I send up one to the diase, another to the golden mallet, and one to lure the gorillas with.

If you are frustrated with the dice roles, you can change the results to your liking in the modifier section of the main menu.

According to the author description of Drawing Grounds, there are gonna be more medals coming soon. There's already one that's been added, but damned if I can figure it out.
