Probably the epitome of flash game development.
Up until Alien hominid was released in Newgrounds, I actually considered Flash games to be sort of a lesser level both in gameplay and development.
However, this game has proved me to be wrong.
Alien hominid has it all: old school gameplay right up to the level of legends like Contra or Metal slug, tasteful and cunning artwork, impressive coding, good music and sound effects...
However, we all have seen that Flash can actually showcase the genius of people with a real deal of artistic talent. However, Alien hominid delivers gameplay on an astounding level. Alien hominid has an unrelenting pace that doesn't go easy on the player, never. Even the most experienced survivors of games like Contra III: the alien wars or the legendarily frustrating Super Return of the Jedi shall find a fair deal of challenge in Alien hominid, and its charming personality - complete to the presence of the charismatic main character, the titular Alien hominid - is sure to attract the more casual gamer that tends to populate the Flash scenario.
All in all, Alien hominid is a perfect work of game development within the limits of Flash gaming, and it alone constitutes a reason to visit Newgrounds regularly, as well as to get the console version, which is even better, and a fairly great piece of gaming in the console context.
