Room For Improvement
Ok so visually this game is great. In a way its simple but its really effective! And the sounds effects are brilliant. But it kind of feels like the controls and general balance of the game could really do with some development. A couple of key issues - 1-Shot-Kills (for the player, that is) really don't work well in my opinion. If you get on a nice roll all it takes is one little slip-up to screw things up. I think its better suited to a 3 hit per life scheme or something, especially considering the amount of suits coming at you on such a small screen. Combined with their cheap low shots it makes it pretty difficult to be honest. Another thing that irks me (and this is more down to my own personal preference) is the fact that jump is "S" whilst the Up Arrow does nothing at all.. Maybe you just wanted to avoid having directional arrows and a single button for the controls but you could've easily used "A" for shoot, "S" for melee attack and put the jump key in its correct place... The freak attack was fantastic, from the scream, to the crunch, to the spectators reaction but again as soon as you hit the ground you're often met by incoming bullets and you go down like a sack of crap. I would've thought it very cool if you could chain the freak attacks and jump from head to head giving them hell. Obviously there'd have to be some technique to it or it would completely tip the balance in the opposite direction.
Regardless, its pretty cool and I really wish it was a bit more enjoyable to play!
Giving some serious thought to trying out the console version, as I'm sure it's pretty damn impressive. Provided you've had it playtested properly etc!
So, have a lucky number 7. I'd say it deserves an 8 but I have a grudge against those suits and they left feeling sulky...
