Reviews for "Blockhead: Episode 9"

YES

Yay, a new blockhead. One of the best newgrounds series EVAH.
Anyway, yes the animation in this was fantastic, clean, and alot better than anything before. Yes it is noticably better, so nice job there.
The brushes are all smoother, and the way his conscious looks is a lot cleaner than earlier drawings.

The humor at some parts seemed a bit more forced than usual, but some parts made up for it.
For example, the beginning when he says no to the stopsign, that was just hilarious but where it went from there after the first time he said no wasn't as funny. Essentially, you've got such good original humor, it just needs refining.

Lastly, I'm curious how did you do that 3D effect when he crawled in the house, that looked really good.

Keep animating buddy :D

Wowwy wow wow.

This Blockhead was fast paced, really really fast paced. Is it just me, or does the pace increase with every cartoon? If it gets much higher, episode 10 might be Blockhead on speed.............you should consider that.

But anyway, I love the fact that the Conscience was in most of the cartoon. (By the way, I always had trouble spelling conscience till your cartoons forced me to type it on a decent basis.) The humor between them was some of the best in any previous episode.

Your graphics were very sweet. Besides the part where Blockhead jumps in the house, there wasn't an incredible change, it just seemed like Blockhead in crisp HD, which is great. Along with the subtle things like the hair waving all around and some "camera" movement like the slow zoom on Conscience, it was enjoyable to just look at.

The only thing I have mixed opinions on is the music playing throughout the whole cartoon. At some parts it kind of...irritated me I guess is the only word I can use. For example, when the cartoon is just beginning, and Blockhead's trying to put the tape in the VCR, and the Conscience is trying to explain how, the music there just distracted me a bit. Like if you were on the computer or watching TV trying to concentrate on something, and a bunch of people are around talking. Something like that. It might be just me but at some parts it just felt like it took me away a bit.

All and all it was a great Blockhead with lots of surprises. I now know why it took as long as it did. Good luck with your future endeavors, and where there is a Swain movie, there will be me watching them.

The-Swain responds:

It's true, I'd like to calm the episodes down a bit. Events are delivered almost back to back for about six minutes, and trust me, I could use the break by slowing it down just a tad.

Great animation

I wasn't expecting such fluent animation. Great stuff. Can't wait for more. ;D

almost as good as the rest

the reason i say almost is because the graphics have changed, the graphics are part of what made it unique, now its just like any other flash about an idiot.

Ooooooo

Dead simple to review this one. If you've not seen the rest of the series you'll love it if you like random humour. If you have seen the rest of the series, well I'm not so sure.

OK, I'm a big fan of the blockhead series and first of all I have to say that the presentation of this episode has far far surpassed any of the previous ones and that's a big big compliment for you. However, for me personally the graphical improvements seemed to sap some of the time spent on the actual script itself. Don't get me wrong, it's still funny but in terms of humour it's not as good as the previous ones in my view. Still very much a worthy addition to the series and still a 5/5, but the humour in this one for me personally was just slightly lacking and so in review scores it's only a 9 and not a 10.

I know it can be improved for Ep. 10 because Swain, you're a very funny writer. I'd hate to see a trend develop which starts to make a blemish on the wonderful series that it is so far, and I know that Swain and the blockhead fans wouldn't want that either.

All that said though, Blockhead is still the #1 guy on newgrounds :D

The-Swain responds:

Don't worry, every episode has people who hated it compared to the previous ones. Episode 7, I THOUGHT, was a great episode, and some folks just HATED it because I "had strayed from my original style". But those same people usually forgive me in later episodes.

The one thing about Blockhead, you'll find, is his consistency - this character is over thirteen years old, crafted during my childhood days. He will never, ever "evolve", although the series itself might.

My only fear is that Blockhead will become un-funny simply because he NEVER changes :(
