Wow. Alvin Earthworm, I salute you.
This is one of the rare times where I actually SIGN in to newgrounds and review something that I actually like.
No, this is more than like, this is flat out admiration. Alvin, have you ever seen the sprite movie ''Megaman Zero: The Last Cataclysm''?
Well, for a long time I regarded it as the herald of sprite movies, the best sprite movie out there. Nothing was better than it, until you released Super Mario Broz Z Episode 1.
I've always loved your series, I loved it because I'm a sprite animator myself. I have to constantly persuade people that it takes as much effort and time to make a sprite film as it does a normal film, but no one ever believed me.
I know what you go through when you make one of these movies, and I know what joy you feel when you finish it. I think that your series is very worthy of receiving one of the highest honors on the portal, if not the highest, because it shows that a sprite movie can be amazing.
Now let's talk about the actual movie. First of all, it was completely amazing. Fast-paced, but not so fast paced as you couldn't tell what was going on.
The graphics were awesome, I noticed a few nods to other games like Yoshi's Island (obviously), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (when Mecha Sonic and Shadow burned the Island). The graphics were incredible, I see you used every part of the sprite sheets. You truly were able to utilize every sprite on there to make various poses and various cinematic scenes.
The Sound was amazing as well, the music you used pumped up the fight scenes, and the sound effects matched the characters so well that I thought I was seeing an actual movie. Your use of sound effects is so incredible, honestly, being able to create such symbiosis between sound and character, it is just truly breathtaking. The best part is you don't even notice it, but when you do notice the sound effects it blows your mind off.
The Style was...well we've all seen Sonic and Mario crossovers, but honestly never like this. I am a big fan of Super Mario RPG and your decision to bring in the Axem Rangers was awesome. At first I thought this was going to be like any other Sonic/Mario crossover but I was proven wrong, because your style is completely unique and your way of telling a story like this one is unparalleled.
Violence, well there wasn't any blood (I'm thankful for that), and you really did a good job depicting the force of a hit. Such as when a character would hit another and they would fly straight downwards to the ground and create an explosion, just that force itself is rewarding of a good score, but overall it was filled with punches, hits, and explosions :D
Interactivity, well I hit my space bar, and it REALLY beats having to click a button on the screen to read the next box.
Now, Humor, this is one subject I've been dying to talk about in this review. You actually managed to put in humor, which really surprised me. Especially when Red said ''OVER 9000!!!'' and you could see Pac Man figures in the scouter, I thought that was simply genius. Also when Luigi witnessed the destruction of the Axem Rangers, that was pure comical genius. You did a great job with humor, I laughed very hard during the humorous scenes.
Overall, Alvin I really thank you for taking time to read this review. I idolize you, and I idolize your work, because I am a fellow sprite artist and I have not been able to successfully create a film with such magnitude as yours. Hell I don't think I ever will be able to, your work is the epitome of awesome. To me, you represent the struggle of all sprite artists to deliver a sprite film that is just flat out amazing.
I'm behind you all the way, and you'll always have a fan in me. Please continue with your work, and please continue inspiring mine. :)
Sincerely,
ObjectInTheMirror.
