Easily the BEST game I have ever played on NG!
I have loomed around NG for roughly 3 years and never bothered to create an account. THIS game was so stellar I thought it alone worthy of making an account and reviewing it!
GRAPHICS-For such a small medium to work with, the graphics were phenemonal! Even towards the later levels with max survivors plus 30+corpses/zombies on screen I never experienced a bit of slowdown. The fact that corpses remin each round was a nice perk as well, as are the blood "splat" effects! Great job!
STYLE- As a big fan of many zombie-eque movies (28 Days Later, Land of the Dead, etc.) this game suited my interests perfectly! From the opening menu to the eerie fog-ridden enviroment, this game reminded me of 28 Days Later. Also interesting to note the faster zombie variants were akin to 28 Days, while the sluggisg, more obese zombies were hilarious (a-la Shaun of the Dead)! While in general roughly 5 or 6 "types" exist, they are all so different it seems as though hundreds of different adversaries are out to destroy the bunker.
SOUND-While many would consider the lack of music a hindrance, in this game the lack of music is a HUGE plus. It adds to the sort of omnipotence of the eerie, fog-ridden field you play in. Not to mention, the weapon sounds are very accurate and the zombie gore effects were awesome!
VIOLENCE-I thought this was spot on. Rather than the over-the-top "hearts/guts/brains" sorts of violence, it was strictly blood. The blood effects were done very well, and again the corpses were able to blot the landscape every round....a very nice idea.
INTERACTIVITY- Aside from controlling the character, I enjoyed the premise of being able to recruit survivors and hunt for weapons. It further added to the level of depth. Not to mention, smaller things like the possibility of search parties suffering losses while hunting for weapons/survivors. On a final interactive note, very miniscule things like checking the daily diary further gave rise to the sense of survival (as in the character's mention of needing to write a note to his parents/find more food). Great atmosphere really made this game IMHO!
HUMOR-Obviously being a more serious-minded game, the humor was not extremly obvious or prevalent. However, some of the zombies (such as the clown zombie and the obese grandmothers and such) were not only realistic considering you were fighting off a town's residents but also served as the perfect blend of humorous ploys in a serious game as this!
OVERALL-A great game! I can hardly believe this is your first, as this is the kind of game that would seem to have been created by a seasoned designer! My ONLY gripe is that you NEED to make a sequel....or maybe a trilogy.....or maybe just make a new edition every day!LOL I am just amazed!
