The 20 day zombie survival guide
Seeing as how all the reviews so far seem to have already nailed the pros and cons of the game as a submission, I decided to only leave a few pointers on how to survive till help arrives (I've beaten it four times so trust me on these >:) )
Ahem...
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
+Head shots: If you want to survive this ordeal you have to learn to aim for the zombies HEADS as this will take the least number of bullets per enemy, and it is key to the strategies that will follow.
-Exception to rule: In the last few nights you will see army soldier zombies wearing bulletproof helmets and kevlar. Just shoot their legs out for a quick takedown.
+Guns: quite a few of the weapons in this game are rather useless, if not because of a lack of stopping power then reload times or times between shots.
-There are three weapons that will make or break you: The first machine gun (third weapon available), the uzi, and the barrett.
-Once you get the first machine gun, it can be safely used as your primary weapon well up to night 10-11 without difficulty (provided your doing headshots).
-Once you get the uzi you're set. While hard, you can beat the game with just this weapon.
-Once you get the Barrett (last gun)...well you think about what a semi-auto sniper rifle will do to the undead >:)
GAMEPLAY:
+Range of Fire: you have movement buttons for a reason! Your character's rance of fire does not cover the entire field, and if you remain stationary you won't hit all enemies, so MOVE! Personally I recommend moving parallel with each oncomer so you don't have to aim so much as fire straight ahead.
+Line of Sight: Remember that this is a 2-D shooter, so you don't have to worry about distance (i.e. you don't necessarily have to precision target an enemy's head. Just fire in a line to the target's body (saves A LOT of time when dealing with multiple enemies)
+Swarm sweeping: If the enemy succeeds in mobbing the fence, don't panic. Just start at the top and kill one zombie at a time while moving down the line (five nearly dead zombies from a random sweep of bullets do a lot more damage than three healthy zombies and two dead ones).
TIME MANAGEMENT:
+Point Bleeder: Almost every game with a resource feature has one, and this one is health regeneration. Your hours are far better spent on weapons and survivors than mending your barrier unnecessarily. My suggestion is to gauge how much damage you normally take during a round, then make sure you have between 2-3 times as much health (at least until you've pumped your other stats). I personally let my defences drop to almost 40 at one point (result of a cat jumping on a key board >:( ).
+Survivors: These are actually very important, and for two (that's two) reasons. One they act as turrets during fights (pretty damn good ones too) and they also pump your ability to repair your barrier (several days of neglect of the barrier can be fixed in an hour with a full camp).
- 7=magic number
During my playtime I've noticed a rather frustrating trend of finding a survivor only to lose another, thus defeating the purpose and wasting hours. However this hasn't yet happened whenever I've used 7 or more hours, using more than half a day must guarentee success
-Maintain Survivors:
Once you have a full camp, make sure (when you have the available points) to continue to put them into survivors, as this seems to prevent their deaths during the day.
MY PERSONAL STRATEGY:
-Survive a night
-Spend the next few nights using hours evenly between weapons and survivors.
-Get the revovler and use as primary
-Get the first machine gun and use as primary
-Spend almost all hours on survivors till you have a full camp
-Pour hours into weapons
-Put 7 or more hours into the survivors only when you lose one.
-Put an hour into the barrier when it gets weak
-Equip the uzi when you get it
-Equip the Barrett when you get it
-Pour hours for rest of the ordeal into survivors (occasional hour on barrier repair).
That's it folks, hope this helps you all out.
