Reviews for "The Last Stand."

Epic

This game was so crazy I masticated all over the place. Some people are telling you It could use music, but fuck that. Having it just the sounds of dead feet trodding and guns blaring makes the whole situation seem more real, and that's scarier than any dolled up musical score can ever do.
Also I gave it humour because I'm just a sick bastard like that.

Samtar

greatest zombie/defense game ever played

i like this piece a lot. theres some aspects that you wouldnt think about normally. for example the game zombie horde 1-3, which are good. are unrealistic in the sense that one man would not be able to fend off an entire city of zombies. this takes into account the need to find survivors to help you rebuild your last defense, find weapons, etc. take a look, you'll enjoy it.

I love a good zombie shoot fest

Excellent game, enough for me to review, which I seldom do nowadays.

The graphics were pretty good, there was a noticable bit of head swapping but that adds a bit of variety to the zombies. The bloodspurts are nice and gory, and the guns look kinda authentic, certainly good effort for vector graphics.

The sounds were alright, but the absence of ambient music or something really stales the atmosphere whilst you're fighting off zombies. Lucky I had some Silent Hill OSTs to remedy that. I was hoping for ambient music mainly because the title menu was kinda scary.

Gameplay-wise, it reminds me of The Seal Hunter - same range of movement and method of play, albeit the barricade. I was disappointed with a few things though:

.Some of the weapons are pretty worthless, and I'm talking about the late game ones. The M4 and AK both don't have a piercing ability, which is kinda silly considering jacketed assault rifle bullets would certainly tear through flesh, even rotting zombie flesh.

.I especially hated that with the Barrett - that sniper rifle has been one of my favourites since I saw it on Modern Warfare, and the fact that a bulletproof vest can take these slugs without any effort dulls the impact of the weapon being, well, awesome. Although it had a piercing ability, I guess I'm being a bit picky since you did this for gameplay aspects as opposed to realism, but it just feels a bit silly.

.Lack of bosses :( I was hoping the clown guy would suddenly jump back up again, that would have been freaky. If you do another one, please add in some bosses of some sort; maybe they have a quick attack on the barricade and you have to shoot them at the right time or cause enough damage to deflect them.

.Saying that, if you do make a sequel, it'd be nice if you could add in some accuracy adjustment, either for the weapons themselves or as a skill that you can improve.

One last thing, I found a bug: basically, using the Sawn Off and Chainsaw combo, I was firing and reloading the Sawn Off quite rapidly, and suddenly it didn't reload anymore. I could still move, so I thought maybe there was an ammo limit I didn't notice. Then I realised I couldn't swap weapons either, and that led inevitably to death.

Overall, it's a great game, one of my favourites on Newgrounds in quite a while. There are little things that stop it from being really enjoyable or as deep a gameplay as some other games, but for this specific genre of gameplay you've set a good benchmark for others to follow. For your first N submission, I think you've excellentally, and I hope to see more of your work soon =)

Wow

I'm impressed...I play a lot of flash games and this has to be, by far, the best I've ever played. I only experience one problem and an annoyance. Most times when I switched from the chainsaw to a gun the noice from the chainsaw would continue, this stopped after I switched back to it though and only happened a few times. The annoyance was that sometimes I would find a survivor and lose one at the same time, this happened while I was alone...dunno...maybe it was supposed to be like that. Overall I loved the game. Sound was only a 5 because the game could have used music or something. I'd love to see a sequel.

I killed a clown, teehee!

This is a great new twist on a used-up old genre. Great game. My only criticism would be that sometimes I shot right through a zombie's head, but the hit went unregistered.

I challenge anyone to defeat this game without finding any weapon beyond the chainsaw.
