Great new features, but too hard.
I'm a big fan of the first S&S, and was relieved to see that the original was more or less intact with some neat new features--ranged weapons are a great opportunity for a change of strategy. I'm in no position to complain about "having to pay" or whatnot, because you provided us with a reasonably long demo. But at the same time, twenty bucks is beyond what I would expect to be the vast majority of the game's audience to be willing to pay. I understand the need to pay the bills, but cutting the cost down to, say, five bucks would persuade that many more people to pay the price. Hell, *I'd* pay five bucks in a heartbeat.
Again, it was great to see fresh material--potions and spells in a gladiator game? Cool. If there were one thing I would change about it, it would be the maximum variable stats of the opponents. For instance, when I am fighting my first or second opponent, seeing that they have 180+ armor is a bit disheartening. I can strategize however the hell I want, and there is NO WAY I'm getting past that dude, short of a miraculous streak of luck.
In closing, I would say to the author that you have a talent for making entertaining games. If you keep producing, I would say there's a decent chance you might make a living off of it even if you charge three bucks a pop. And if not, hey--there are plenty of other options open to you, I'm sure. Let me know when the third one comes out. 8-)
