Reviews for "Lost Rhapsody 2"

FINALLY! (I'm seeing numbers all over the place!!)

As I had said in the first Lost Rhapsody comments, I was really looking forward to this, and it's finally here!

You took a big risk with Rotoscope (VERY uncommon around here), but you did an amazing job for even professional standards, so kudos for having the stones to pull that off. The intro and ending sequences are definitely A-grade.

As for the skit itself, I did notice you had a hard time choosing a song, since I should say the first song fit the images funnier and more coherently than here. While this was indeed funny at times (wouldn't have expected less:), the scenes seemed more... random this time, and it felt like you were trying to fill up the time with story and random characters instead of just being funny with the lyrics and music, which I thought you handled perfectly in the first Lost Rhapsody.

Still, I think this does bring enough chuckles to both Losties and non-Losties alike, and I'm sure the effort in bringing this together was enormous, so again excellent job, and I'll definitely look forward to whatever comes next from you. Thanks!

P.S. Akupara the tortoise would be proud of you, yet again. I'll pray you're wrong, though! :)

CapnBob responds:

I'm a bit slaved to keeping the lyrics relevant to the events of the show, so when I have a song that's more random than the first then the video will end up following suit. I may make more additions later or possibly do a director's cut when I can afford to spend more time on it.

That was just, ugh

The only reason I gave it an eight was because the begining was amazing, if the whole thing had been like that, it would have gotten a ten, but then it turned into a total crap heap.

CapnBob responds:

Your review gets a 3 out of 10. Your understanding of grammar is atrocious. You failed to explain your objections or provide specific examples. I'm afraid that this is going to count against you on your permanent record and devalue the worth of your opinion in the eyes of your peers for the rest of your life.

Worse still is the fact that your failure to assemble a solid argument cheapens the praise you have heaped upon other movies, bringing their authors undeserved shame and disgrace for being honored by such a cheap hack of a reviewer. I hope you think about what you've done to poor LegendaryFrog and send him an apology for sullying his name with your ill-considered remarks.

Great Animations

I love the way you retrospected everything but from the beginning and end scenes, I saw that you could've taken a lot more effort into making the whole animations just as good. For the music.. We all have different tastes in music but I think that you could've chosen a better song! @_@

CapnBob responds:

Sure... but... consider for a moment how long the opening and closing animations likely took. I would wager they were over 70% of the time I spent on the entire movie, yet take up far less than half of the total runtime of the movie. Had I done the entire video at the same ridiculous standard of the opening, It would not have been completed until probably the middle of next year. I have already spent every moment of my free time for 4 months building this, and continuing that trend out to a full year to achieve an effect that would not make the movie funnier in the slightest does not seem to be the best use of my time. Consider also that I am not paid to do this.

In light of the reality of the situation, I hope you will forgive me for finding your point of contention to be more than slightly ridiculous and irrelevant.

There is no accounting for musical taste, this is true, but I think you are quite mistaken. I could not have chosen a better song, as there is no other song that fits so much of the second season so well. The movie is what it is entirely because of that song and virtually none of the visual gags or flow would have come into existance without it. It would have been an entirely different animal, to the point that making comparisons to what might have been is entirely meaningless.

Next time, consider the totality of your suggestions before making them. If you think a better song exists, you should start out by naming that song and presenting a well-formed argument with specific points why it would have been a better fit.

Without that, you leave the interpretation of your own musical selections entirely up to me. I'm choosing to believe that the song you have in mind is "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull, and that is a really terrible song. What were you thinking?

Geez...

Well, I watched it all the way through, and wow was it long. It was too redudant though. I've heard a shortened version of that song, and that may be why I got so bored with it. If you think about it, unless you do a completely different style with your animation for each verse (or maybe every other verse), it'll get boring no matter what they're doing. If it hadn't been for that, I'd say this was way up with other great movies. Ironic that some people (who obviously didn't watch it) say it was too short, when in my opinion it was too LONG. You can probably tell that I haven't seen Lost, but that doesn't change the fact that it's on here to be seen by both those who have seen it and those who haven't. If / When you do another, consider making it shorter, or at least much more varied. I didn't time it, but after I while I was just waiting for it to end, and I'll bet many other people were too. Despite that, it was still well done, especially the animation. Good luck in the future.

CapnBob responds:

That's a fair statement to make for people who aren't familiar with the show, but keep in mind that what you're attempting to do is akin to judging the length of a play when you don't speak the language that it's presented in. One of the goals I had in setting out on this was to hit almost every major plot point from an entire television season in lyrical form, and when you know what those are then you may find that there isn't really very much redundancy in the video. So if it's a choice between catering to people in the target audience and everyone else, I'm going to come down on the side of the target audience every time.

That said, I do regret not putting in more silly imagery in every section to keep non-fans entertained, but I kinda had to put a large chunk of my life on hold to get it to this level and I really couldn't afford to do that any longer. I am thinking about doing an enhanced director's cut later, but making a living and being available to friends and family again has to take precedence for now.

COOL!

but what are the NUMBERS for?
