Reviews for "Super Smash Flash"

Excellent sprite-based game

Finally unlocked everything! Took me a whole day ><

Good:
1. Sound: The sounds were great! Indeed I loved all of then ('cause they came straight from SSBM :P) Btw what's the Floating Islands theme called? Isn't it from Kirby Superstar's save room?
2. Characters: Nice choice of chars.. But why Sora and the Fire emblem chars aren't there? T_T Sprites too big? Yeah sure....
3. Modes: Adventure and All-star! Omg target test and Multi-man melee too. I love you! :D But you can also throw in some events.
4. Auto-save: I love this feature! :)

Bad:
1. Moves:Ahhh the moves.. Major bugs are here. Some characters' moves are very unbalanced (Example: Falcon punch takes hella long time to recharge and doesn't do much dmg and doesn't really send foes fly); Kirby's changing move shouldn't normal attack cause it may become really buggy; the combos could be done better; When you are in air and turn left and right, it moves the char too much; and the Up+Attack is kinda... too strong;
2. Stages: Too small, plus there weren't many. And I HATED Floating islands and the racing one with bees. They are just too tough for some chars.
3. Other bugged stuff: Example: Damage is increasing too fast.

A faithful interpretation, but a bit buggy.

I'm amazed that you made so many characters for the game, and not only pre-existing characters, but all the ones you thought ought to be in. Fits in very well with all the hype over what characters will appear in Smash Bros. Brawl. Each character has appearance, attacks, and sounds faithful to the original Smash, and there are plenty of levels and modes too.

The only problem I have is that the gameplay itself is somewhat lacking... it mostly comes down to spamming one or two attacks, and the AI tends to just run up to you. The percentage damage doesn't seem to affect how far you can be sent flying until you get above 150% or so, upon which any hit means an instant death. Feels very unsettling when some dinky hit that barely fazed you at 130% suddenly sends you flying off the screen at 150% in two frames.

But still, it'd be impossible to make a flash game that could compare to the original in actual gameplay, so I think this is an impressive flash and an achievement you should be proud of. Now I can play Smash without leaving my computer!

Mind boggling

While this game is not without it's flaws, your dedicated and faithful recreation of a classic title is worth admiration. Replay value is good, with several modes of play and characters to unlock- not to mention a well done multiplayer function.
The characters do have a limited number of sprites each.... I would love to see a large, downloadable version of this making use of more sprites, such as a damage reaction. Choppiness was quite noticeable, but did not deter from the enjoyment and shock brought about by the quality of this production.
I am in love with the fact that you chose a quality voice actress rather than attempting a poor reproduction of melee's announcer. Clever. On that note, all the sound was good. Excellent and varied selection of songs and effects.
I'm impressed by the four (?) attacks attainable by each character, though I would like to see that system repolished a bit. An overall "ten" rating would mean that characters moves would have different timing, damage ratios, etc. They would all be much more unique. I like that Megaman only has ranged shots, and I like the directional ones, but I'd also like to see other characters doing more than just punching and kicking uninterestingly. (Of course, I've only played the first characters, so my foot might just have to go in my mouth...)
Bottom line? You've impressed me more than any game maker on NG in a long while. Be very proud of yourself.

Feels like a demo or prototype...

I loved the idea of making a Flash Smash Bros game. You got the graphics, muxic and SFX right, but as far as gameplay goes, you should really iron out all the bugs because the controls and AI don't seem like they're ready for presentation yet.

I'm sure you can improve all of this and make an awesome comeback!

Hmm..

I don't like the controls...
