My Review
First off, this game will be reviewed for what it is, not what it tries to be. Next off, I have played the game in its full entirety (unlocking everything there is, trying all the modes, etc.) before I even thought about writing this review. Do not worry about the many who gave this game low scores. I have checked their profiles, and more than half have either the crappiest flash I have ever seen, or no flash at all. They're just hypocrites.
I have played Super Smash Brothers and Super Smash Brothers Melee, and I am looking forward to Super Smash Brothers Brawl. This game is as close as it can get to being a Flash version.
SOUND:
Your sound is wonderful. The female announcer is not as annoying and grating as everyone says it is. It's fine. The music is the good classic music from Super Smash Brothers Melee, which I highly loved. A majority of the characters had some little grunts whenever they jumped or attacked, and they all fit the characters' actions perfectly. All the rest of the sounds are your classic Super Smash Brothers sounds, which is good. This IS a Flash version of the game, of course.
GAMEPLAY:
As it was said before by many, the game lags. However, lagging was not that much of an annoyance to me. It would be nice for it not to lag to keep the fast paced feel but...hey, it's only a Flash game. It can only have so many capabilities. The move set was fine and dandy, and all the characters had their strengths and weaknesses. Every level was quite nice. Yes, even the Floating Islands. Most of the people's problems is that they aren't patient enough to just go through the level a little slower. The only level I have complaints about is Race To The Finish. Reduce the number of bees a bit, or at least don't have them do mucho damage on you whenever you just LAND on them. The game is slippery, but as I said, PATIENCE. It simply takes some good getting used to. Once you get used to the icy running, the game is a blast. The items are quite cool too.
DIFFICULTY:
Here's where I complain a little. 100 Man Melee. Took me absolutely forever to get to Cloud. What happens? I lost. I had to do 100 Man Melee all over again. 100 Man Melee is next to impossible because the Polygons (or Wire-Frames...or gray thingies...) were simply too tough to beat. Having to fight 100 of these monsters would be a lot more fun if they weren't so intelligent in reading your every move and respawning right on top of you, resulting in you getting hurt. It got frustrating, and I was ready to bash my computer. When I finally beat it a 2nd time, I got Cloud, then Mr. Game and Watch and the All Star mode. Also the Race To The Finish level caused me a lot of problems. Except for the Polygons and Race, however, the rest of the game had perfect difficulty. So give yourself a big pat on the back. I know how hard script action must be, man. You did a good job for this just being your first game.
VARIETY:
You certainly had plenty of characters. I have no complaints there. I laughed a bit when I saw Mr. Incredible, which made it all the more enjoyable to play as him. However, you have a lack of levels. This is a minor problem that can be improved upon. Possibly have a Star Fox and an F-Zero level. Have more of a variety since it *does* get a little boring playing the same 8 levels (2 need to be unlocked) all the time.
OVERALL:
You did a wonderful job. You're 16, this is your first game, you put a LOT of work and dedication in it, you have a shot at becoming BIG. Get out there. Try becoming one of the popular artists on Newgrounds. This was an amazing piece of work I enjoyed, and you made a lot of other people proud too. Sure there are glitches here and then, but they don't ruin the game. As many others have mentioned, try making this a downloadable online game if you can! It would be absolutely perfect.
Cheers,
BenderBender444.
