Reviews for "Super Smash Flash"

A faithful interpretation, but a bit buggy.

I'm amazed that you made so many characters for the game, and not only pre-existing characters, but all the ones you thought ought to be in. Fits in very well with all the hype over what characters will appear in Smash Bros. Brawl. Each character has appearance, attacks, and sounds faithful to the original Smash, and there are plenty of levels and modes too.

The only problem I have is that the gameplay itself is somewhat lacking... it mostly comes down to spamming one or two attacks, and the AI tends to just run up to you. The percentage damage doesn't seem to affect how far you can be sent flying until you get above 150% or so, upon which any hit means an instant death. Feels very unsettling when some dinky hit that barely fazed you at 130% suddenly sends you flying off the screen at 150% in two frames.

But still, it'd be impossible to make a flash game that could compare to the original in actual gameplay, so I think this is an impressive flash and an achievement you should be proud of. Now I can play Smash without leaving my computer!

...

So how the hell do you play? I've pressed almost every key I know of, and nothing happens.

Good, but had some rather large overlooked flaws.

First off, I would like to say this is very cool. I have spent two hours or so playing it and there is still so much left to do. However, there are a lot of things that bothered me.

1. The sprites you used didn't really match with eachother. Using those silly overused Link, Mario, Falco, ect... sprites was a bad move. They do look rather nice, but they are animated horribly. You should probably try and stick to sprites from one game.

2. It was only two player. I realize there would have been lots more lag with 4 players, but I'm sure our computers could handle it. It was also lacking team multiplayer battles (if I am not mistaken.) Also, during multiplayer, the camera only focused on player 1, even when player 1 was defeated. This made multiplayer rather difficult, and player 1 was often gang raped, because he was always in the center of the screen.

3. The collision sort of sucked. Not only that, but the damage coding wasn't so great either. You would often find yourself getting hit by the same attack 3 or 4 times, and racking you % up by 100-150 in half a second. If you are standing still, it is difficult for your enemies to kill you. You will simply fly up, as opposed to way off the screen.

4. It was rediculous how little friction there was when running. You would often find yourself flinging off the screen at top speed with no chance of changing direction, even though you are infact, running the other way. While on the ground there should be little to no friction.

That is all I can think of really that this point. Only other thing I sugest is using a differen't program for making your games. Flash isn't really built for something as big as this. Good work, this definately deserves a 5, no matter it's flaws.

it was so cinematic

i loved it
i remember watching the old ones and thinking it was awesome
but this one completely takes it to a whole new level

awesome work

Very impressive

Now this is something I never thought I'd see! Even though each character only has a few moves, can't block or grab and the controls are too sensitive, the idea of playing as non-nintendo characters in a SSB game makes this very fun for a while. I really hope you'll make a more complex version with even more characters in the near future.
