Reviews for "The White, The Black"

EX-CE-LENT

I did not reviewed a short since long ago, but this one really caught my attention. I had no expectations, and I loved it.
First off: the subject. Chess is not common. If it was a "violent clip" short, It would have been very thought to raise the bar.
And the good thing is that you go beyong that. You did not settle with a theme and plot (wich are both good) but you gave it a certain ring to it. The scratchy feel when good with the music, and the teatrical personalities of the chess pieces. Also, the situations with every chess piece, wich gave away the personalities of those behind them.
Those things give your short something most shorts in NG don“t have: a true audiovisual narrative. Most NG shorts are, (and I beg your pardon, but they are) mere mimics of Anime or US most commertial animation. Yours looks yours, I mean, it`s more personal -and therefore authentic.

I think you did a pretty good job, both technically and artistically.

What if all chess were like that?..

Chess happens to be one of my favorite games so I really liked that! Very creative and nicely done. I like the scratchy video, that was a nice touch. Nice ending too. I've had my share of matches that end like that lol

Very original, and very well made

I enjoyed that one alot. The smoothness of the animation made it pleasant to watch, while the scratchy, old filmesque overlay gave it some flare. The base idea and the end sequence with the king was pretty witty. I've also never seen chess in that kind of alive aspect, kind of made me wish chess peices were alive so the game would be alittle more interesting.

All in all great animation, keep it up.

WOW!, that looked awesome...

Liked your flash movie, especialy the 'Escher' part at the end [its the background with the fishies and the birdies, for people who don,t know who [or what] escher is]

But on top of everything I liked the style, man! that was wicked!

w00t

That was perty damn creative. The music got a little annoying though.
