It must have been a few months between the fourth and fifth installments of the series, and I know that, when it was concluded with this work, I was not disappointed in the least. Like everyone else who watched this thing, the ending threw me a little off. This is not to say that it was a bad choice; in fact it was definitely better than I expected, which was that Mario and Peach would be the only living people left alive. So when she fell into the lava, that was a very interesting move. I don't quite understand why the lava then began to overflow, but I think it might have something to do with her magic being released or something...
I heard a lot of good music on here too, so much that I froze-framed the credits once and tried finding some of the songs online. One can claim that 90% of all Mario-sprite animations contain music solely from the games without overgeneralizing, and it was a very nice change to see that somebody had gotten some of the best music I've ever heard rather than limited themselves to stuff everybody already knows. Likewise, the tunes you chose fit very, very well with the tragic theme of the story.
One thing I would really like to compliment is how you made the entire thing loop back to the beginning. I recall reading somewhere that you had intended the first episode to be a parody placing 44-pixel characters in over-dramatic situations, only to have viewer interpretation turn it into an actual sprite drama (the best I have ever seen, by the way). I don't know if you planned on people taking it seriously so that the glowing red bulge that Mario was running away from would make sense at the end of the movie, but whatever you did, you executed it superbly.
Hopefully you're the kind of artist who prefers long-winded reviews over short, to-the-point reviews, because my obsessive detail makes me suck at the latter. :P Well done with the whole Mario Brothers series.

Ive been watching this series since it came out and it never fail to impress me...
This was the single greatest mario "Tribute" ive ever seen. One of the greatest endings ever. I never thought it would end like that...
