amazing!!
this game was amazing! wish it were longer , but i love the story.
each game you make gets more and more action packed , its wonderful how you made this. >_> this would be an awesome movie or book....
A worthy tribute.
I feel oblidged to write a review to a game which has simultaneously made me crap myself in both joy and terror. Joy over the wonderful experience that Exmortis is - and how it is a portent of the boundless potential of Flash Animation. Terror because, well, it can be awfully frightening at times. Even when one KNOWS something is going to jump out, you still have to grip yourself a little tighter.
Now, here is my review, point by point:
Graphics, Style, and Sound: 10/10
I feel a need to lump these catagories together, for without one the others loose strength.
As Mr. Leffer talked about in his first game, he designed a piece that created a wholly uniquie, terrifying atmosphere. The only way to achieve this was to use diabolical graphics. Now, I am not saying they were PERFECT, but you'd be damn hard to find something better. Overall, the gritty, dark universe portrayed feels all the more real by the similarly dreary colors and drab appearance of the nightmarish future.
I recal the first "timed" scene in the game - trying to find the keys to get an automobile started, while an ominous cloud approaches. Now, I am not what one would call a "scardy cat." I do jump and get startled easily, but rarely to I feel pure terror grip me. As I fumbled around, desperately trying to discover the way out of this connundrum, I began to realize just how unsettling those clouds were. Excelent sound-effects (most of which are sublimely subtle to add an eerie feel to even the most docile of rooms) catagorize this game - but to hear the first demonic wails of the Exmortis as they began to descend upon me sparked something within me. I grew paniced. Terrified.
Oh, GOD. I don't want to know what happens if you can't get into the car. ANYTHING but finding out what's making that horrible racket. To make a long story short, I got out alright (Won't say how...don't want to be a spoiler. ;D). However, I was shaken by the experience. And, it only got worse. As I explored the house, I was worried some skinless abomination was about to jump out at me around every corridor. (And, one did...kind of...)
The point is: Graphics, Style, and Sound were all SUBLIME in this game. I could think of nothing better.
Violence: 10/10
I hate this catagory, but in this case I feel it is good to speak about the violence of Exmortis. It adds to the forboding nature of the game, and even though one sees a single "act of violence" the reminents of bloodshed is prevalent throughout Exmortis 2. It is good Violence. Excelent Violence.
Interactivity: 8/10
The one issue I have with Exmortis 2 (as I have with Exmortis) is the somewhat clunky controlls. Somehow, and it is difficult to explain mind you, I feel as though I have very little control. Much of the tediousness of Exmortis 1 is long-gone. But, even then, something about the pace of picking up an object or entering a door seems a bit too sluggish. It is not enough to make a dent in my opinion of the game, but strong enough for me to notice. Hence, an 8/10.
Humor: 0/10
This isn't Barney's Great Adventure. It's mother f*ckin' Exmortis.
Overal: 10/10
Ben Leffer, I know it may not be "much" for a single person to give you a 10/10, but I take 100% seriously. You have created, in my opinion, one of the most solid, flawless games to ever grace Newgrounds. So enthralled was I by this game, I entered into your voice-talent contest. Compared to the true talent that flocked to your calling, I suppose mine was viewed as quite sub-par (after all, I recorded it in my dorm room on my laptop without a microphone).
You, sir, are a genius. Pure and simple. Years of horror games have come together in this masterpiece: Exmortis 2.
Thank you for your gift.
