The mood was wonderful and eerie - perfect for how you told the story. It's much more disturbing and creepy this way... totally better than the original which stuffed love and happiness down the throats of naive kids. Great job overall!

Freakin' morbid
That was.... warped. Excellent idea, though. Puts a much darker spin on an already grim story. The animation was a bit choppy, though.
