Yes superman can die. Look up the "death of superman" comic, or more specifically the villan "doomsday". He gave superman a run for his money, and in the end killed him.
SOmeone sacrificed themselves to revive him in the end, but he was dead, as nothing hurt doomsday. Doomsday cleaned superman's clock.

to the guy below me: Of course Superman can die. Are you going to tell me that not one person in a hundred years would think to bring Kryptonite? The issue of Chuck Norris is harder to explain though. I have come to the conclusion that at the precise moment that group "kicked his ass", he simply went back into the heavens, and that blood on the floor is probably because Chuck Norris ripped out Superman's heart right before he left.
