It has both its advantages and its flaws.
The animation was quite good, though the character's age seemed to vary from frame-to-frame. The voice acting was pretty bad; in fact, it was really bad. The protagonist's voice reminded me of the latino homosexual in Boat Trip. As for the story, well, here is where you really lose points with me. I would still have voted quite high had you offered consilation in an at least mediocre story, but you really far short with this corny cliche of an anime tale-esque kid's show rip-off. I mean, when you are copying the patterns and plots of such shows as Digimon and Yugioh, that is when you need to take a step back and realize that your going down the dark side of story telling. Not too mention, and I realize that as you stated you merely "just took the concept," but that is hardly an excuse to rape good mythology and abort it into some contrived little story of yours. The least you could have done is created your own mythology or spent some effort in researching the mythology you wanted to explore for the story; but alas, I guess you were simply too lazy... sorry, but I hate to see good mythology go to waste in the hands of the careless.
