Reviews for "TmsT's Zero Wing Rhapsody"

10 10 10 10 10 10!

My god the best parody ever. I've never seen a more creative and intelligently put together parody flash on newgrounds in my life. Totally pays omage to the original. I may be acting a bit premature but i don't know how this guy isn't going to win the portal contest. All my 5 r BELONG TO THIS!

whatever

this just proves that when you take 2 good things and put them together you often get one mediocer thing

TmsT responds:

...that is loved and admired by all. :)

That was how you were going to finish that sentence wasn't it? With a period at the end? Yes.

So funny can't stop watching

That was the best parody song ever

Somebody please shoot me.

This is by possibly the worst Zero Wing parody I have seen. They just kept saying most of the dialog three or four time.

It was awesome! But...

This was an absolutely wonderful flash, but it does deserve some (constructive) criticism. I honestly believe that, with some minor differences, this flash could have been one of the all-time classics. As it is, it's good--but not "classic" good. First things first: although many people may not have liked the "keyboard" version of Bohemian Rhapsody, I understand the difficulties involved in trying to lay down a separate vocal track over the original recording without the original vocals. I do believe that the version of the song you employed in your flash was excellent, considering its use.

The vocal talent, however, is another thing entirely. There were several key points in the song during which *any* random viewer could instantly point out and say, "That part could be way better if it was done in such-and-such a way." One of the most notable, to me, was the part of the song just before the headbanging that involved the back-and-forth singing between Cats and the crew of the ship. Those parts done by Cats should have been harmonized, much like the opening vocals (also done by Cats' voice actor). This would have made the interchange between the two parties much more pleasing to the ear and truer to the original song. Also, a more "choral" sound in many parts of the song would have helped to reinforce different singers, so that their voices would not have sounded so weak.

Also, I know that you were limited lyrically, but I honestly think that you could have made much better choices in the rhythmic application of the vocals. You could have worked the lyrics around so that small, unimportant words weren't overly emphasized and stretched out. The rhythm of the vocals that you employed in the flash is extremely awkward at times, and even downright disastrous in places.

Now all that being said, I will say that it was an excellent flash, and well-deserving of anyone's 5. However, the occasional sloppiness and the weakness of the vocals (which were supposed to be the focal point of the flash) kept the flash from becoming a work of comedic genius. Sorry if I've been overly critical, but I've tried to be honest without being mean. I hope you've found my comments helpful and constructive.

TmsT responds:

Arg, you read my mind. Except for two things:

I found an instrumental track of BR, and a MIDI of it. I chose the MIDI because it sounded more cheesy and "early 90's home entertinament console"-ish. My decision. *Shrug*. May or may not be the best decision musically, but.

I intentionally worked the lyrics around so that unimportant syllables/words WERE emphasised, making the original lyrics even more embarrassingly clumsy. Hopefully the emotion in the voices/music put some meaning into the awkward words.

Thanks for the comments, I can see that you "get" this Flash animation.
