Reviews for "Fallen Angel: Teaser"

Phwoarsome!

If you had some heavy metal during the action it would make a great music video to say the least.

Many kudos to you!

very good

i thought the animation was amazing..and the sound is really good..but theres isnt to much of a story is there..but i guess this is only a teaser..well good job

Gorgeous animation, but thematics fall short.

Setting aside the current level of skill and vision among the average Newgrounds artist, this is definitely a cut above in terms of visual development and animation. Wonderfully done through and through, this is definitely quite the eye candy. Perhaps the best I've seen with Flash ever.

With that said, it should be noted that despite such great leaps in animation (and arguably sound, though it needs an original score), there isn't much else. For a trailer, understandable, but what truly nags at the mind would be the fact that every American action flick cliche is more or less brought out in this (as was noted by Arandomerican).

Even so, what got to me the most, was little bits of unrealism that worked it's way into the feature. Rather than go over the many, just the one that really got to me... I take it the artist has never visited the L.A. area... where is this magic road you feature in the beginning of this? The City of Los Angeles is surrounded by other cities and freeways. Also, I have yet to see a sign with "Los Angeles, The City of Angels" anywhere while driving, though perhaps I missed it on my X thousand times going about there...

I think it would be really awesome if the film was geographically correct, but I suppose that might be a little much to ask for...

Still, this teaser is not without merit, but if it truly wishes to be the "greatest animation on Newgrounds" it needs substance, which is hopefully what the finished product will bring. I eagerly await to see whether this becomes something of dreams, or something of nightmares... just don't go too Hollywood ;)

RobsH66 responds:

Thanks for the review. :) You brought up a number of good points, so I'll just start from the beginning...

I wish I could create an original musical score for my series, but at the moment I don't possess the necessary skills or resources required to do so, nor do I know anyone who does. Hopefully I'll come across somebody who's willing to help in the near future, but that remains to be seen. Until then, I'll have to make due with whatever music I can find that seems to fit the mood.

It's been pointed out numerous times that there are quite a few flaws in the action sequences of this animations (for example, the fact that the main character is able to dodge hundreds of bullets and projectiles with ease, and yet every time she fires her gun she nails whoever she's shooting at). I'm going to take great care to avoid these problems in future episodes, so the action sequences are going to be a great deal more realistic and believable.

In regards to your comments about my less-than-perfect recreation of LA, I can assure you that this is another problem I plan to remedy in the upcoming episodes. When I created the Teaser, I was not at all familiar with the city of Los Angeles (I had never visited the area, and didn't spend a lot of time researching the setting), and I didn't want to spend the ridiculous amount of time it would take to draw a sprawling urban cityscape (a task that would probably be much easier now that my skills have increased, but at the time I just felt it was too much for me to attempt), so I just took the easy way out. Since the completion of the Teaser, I've been lucky enough to take a vacation to Los Angeles, so I now have a much better sense of how the setting should look and feel. I will eventually be re-creating the Teaser animation as part of a full episode, and when that time comes, you'll find my updated rendering of the city to be vastly improved.

As far as other locales are concerned, though, I don't have the time or money to visit every area I hope to feature in the series. However, I will be sure to spend a great deal more time researching any setting that I decide to use in the future, so I can more realistically duplicate it in my animations.

I hope that alleviates some of your worries about the upcoming series. I'm trying to read and consider all constructive criticism that is given to me, so rest assured that your advice has not fallen on deaf ears. Thanks again for the review!
